West Coast cruisers will soon get their first chance to check out a ship in Celebrity Cruises’ Solstice class, when it visits San Diego in May. Spa-like staterooms, a deck with real grass, a glass wine tower and the hip Celebrity iLounge are just a few of the vessel’s unique features.
Officials from the Port of San Diego will be welcoming Celebrity Solstice as it makes its inaugural visit to San Diego on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. The 1,041-foot vessel will sail into San Diego harbor at 8 a.m., bringing approximately 2,850 guests and crew.
San Diego will be the second stop on a 10-day voyage marketed as a West Coast Wine Cruise. The journey begins in Ensenada, Mexico, the evening of May 6. After stopping in San Diego, it will sail to Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Astoria, Oregon; Victoria, British Columbia and finish in Seattle, Washington on May 15.
Not only will this be Celebrity Solstice’s first visit to San Diego, it will be the first time any ship in the Solstice class has visited the West Coast.
Completed in November 2008, Celebrity Solstice is the first in Celebrity Cruises’ Solstice line of vessels. Vessels in this class are the largest of all Celebrity Cruises ships. Amenities include “The Lawn Club,” a half-acre of freshly manicured grass perched 15 stories above the sea. Another highlight is a live exhibition of the art of glass blowing, demonstrated by artisans from the renowned Corning Museum of Glass.
Wine aficionados will appreciate the extensive collection of more than 500 varieties onboard. Guests can sip their favorite wines amidst a two-story glass wine tower, or in the intimate “Cellarmasters” wine bar, complete with an “Enomatic,” by-the-glass wine serving system. An expert Sommelier is always on hand to answer questions and provide expertise.
Staterooms on this class of vessel are significantly larger than previous classes, and about 80 percent of them include verandas. A special class of accommodations called “Aqua Class” staterooms incorporate spa-inspired elements such as aromatherapy diffusers, extra-plush towels and Frette robes, and on-demand wellness programming. Guests in these staterooms also have unlimited access to the AquaSpa’s Relaxation Room and Persian Garden, and exclusive access to the Mediterranean-themed “Blu” specialty restaurant.
Families traveling together will appreciate Celebrity Solstice’s large number of connecting staterooms. The ship also offers family veranda staterooms with separate bedrooms.
For entertainment, Celebrity Solstice features a European-style circus, Broadway shows, live jazz ensembles, casinos, lounges, shops and much more.
