Norwegian Cruise Line’s new Miami ship is ready to start the long sail home.
Meyer Werft, the German shipyard that built the nearly 4,000-passenger vessel, handed over the Norwegian Getaway to the Doral-based company during a ceremony in Germany Friday. The ship was built in 15 months.
Next, the ship will head to Rotterdam for inaugural festivities and then sail to Southampton. From there, Getaway departs for a transatlantic crossing that ends in New York. The ship will be transformed into a Bud Light Hotel in New York between Jan. 30 and Feb. 2 for the Super Bowl.
Norwegian Getaway will then head to Miami, where a christening ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 7. It will sail year-round from Miami.
