BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Kick stands up! Some unlikely passengers boarded a cruise ship sailing out of the Port of Baltimore on Monday. Almost 20 motorcycles boarded the Royal Caribbean Enchantment for the open seas of the Caribbean.
Christie Ileto has more on the one-of-a-kind cruise deal.
Just like his bike, David Lissy is revved to be sailing the open seas with his motorcycle.
“It’s just been a great time to really have the chance of bringing your own personal vehicles on a ship to all these various islands,” Lissy said.
Lissy and 41 other bikers start their trip Monday at the Port of Baltimore and head to the Caribbean for a week-long cruise where the group tours the islands on their bikes.
Steve Wallach, president of Entertainment and Travel Alternative, says they are the only company to offer a motorcycle cruise in the world.
The bikers are some of the last passengers to board the cruise ship but are the first to unload in the Caribbean. And that’s when they start turning heads.
“You watch all of the people getting out on their balconies and hearing all these motorcycles wondering what is going on,” Lissy said. “And then inevitably you hear all the guys talking to their wives, saying ‘Honey you mean I could have gotten my bike on this cruise ship?’”
After 6,000 bikes and 13 years, this is the second time they’re leaving from the Port of Baltimore.
“We love this port. This is one of the easiest and nicest ports to work with,” Wallach said.
It may have been a trek for Canadian biker Bruce Gilbert, but he says it was worth it.
Because for the next several days he and 41 others will be riding the islands in style on their motorcycles.
Bikes are kept below passenger decks and are watched around the clock.
