Cove Balcony Review

Thanks for the great advice, Bill! I had a chance to go on the "Dream" last September but had to cancel. Will check into that cabin if we go on the "Dream."

We couldn’t agree more Bill! We’ve been singing the praises of Cove Balconies since we first had one aboard Carnival Dream back in February 2010!

What exactly is a cove balcony?

Cove Balconies are way down on deck 2 and they look sort of like they are carved out of the hull of the ship. I think they’re only on Carnival Dream, Carnival Magic and Carnival Breeze so far. It’s a completely different experience being so close to the water – especially when there were dolphins swimming alongside the ship! You just can’t see that from way up on deck 10!

We took our family of 12 on the Carnival Breeze in Oct. 2013. We all had Cove Balconies. It was our 54th cruise, and we definitely will ask for a Cove Balcony the next time we cruise with Carnival.

When they remodeled the Carnival Dream they designed these balconies by redoing the rooms in that area of the ship. At a Carnival seminar they told us these were so successful that they are adding them to their newer ships. They have a u-shaped roof above so you do not see the bottom of the lifeboats. They also told us most of these rooms were obstructed view rooms before they did this and they turned them into a beautiful thing!

They didn't remodel the Dream. It was the first ship of a new ship design, that now includes the Carnival Dream, Magic, and Breeze. Each incorporated the cove balconies. I'm not sure who gave that seminar Bill attended, but they didn't know the straight story about Carnival and the new ships. The cabins are the same size as regular balconies, 185 sq ft, but the cove balcony is larger - 45 sq ft versus a regular balcony at 35 sq ft. Instead of a clear balcony and railing, they just cut an oval opening in steel hull and that is the view from the cove balcony. Disney has some similar balconies with solid balconies, as do some Cunard ships.
