Having kicked off Costa Crociere's presence in Asia back in 2006, Costa Allegra came back to Europe in Spring 2010 on an extended B2B cruise.
I decided to take the full cruise and have a few days pre-cruise in Singapore, thus it made the trip 35 days in total.
Allegra has been my favourite small ship since my first time aboard her back in 2008 and upon boarding, it was like being back with an old friend, she was as lovely as I had remembered her to be...and her crew were, again, wonderful. Captain Donato was there again too and the moment he saw me it was a hug from him and his lovely wife who I also met in 2008.
This was a B2B cruise with the changeover port being Mumbai.
The full port list.....Singapore, Port Klang, Medan, Langkawi, Phuket, Colombo, Cochin, Goa, Mumbai, Mascat, Salalah, Aden, Safaga, Hurghada, Aqaba, Alexandria, Civitavecchia & Savona.
Hurghada was a replacement for Sharm el Sheik.
We were very badly affected by the ash cloud which meant that several hundred did not make the ship in Mumbai and those who could not get home from there were able to stay on board for the cost of the service charge per day which was really good under the circumstances.
We did have some seriously bad behaviour by a few pax over the port swap...one a couple of occasions I actually stepped in to rescue crew who were being bullied and had more than a few words with others who treated the crew extremely badly.
Overall the cruise was amazing, the food was top notch as was the service...something I have gotten used to with Costa Crociere.
The entire cruise was exceptional value for money and a real trip of a lifetime...my greatest sadness is that Allegra is no longer with us, she is now at Alagia for scrapping, she will always remain my favourite little ship and this homecoming cruise was just wonderful.
