  • Disney will keep two largest ships at Port Canaveral

Disney Cruise Line will keep its two largest ships based at Port Canaveral during the fall of 2015, the cruise line said.

    >>The Disney Fantasy will operate seven-night cruises from Port Canaveral to the Eastern and Western Caribbean.

    >>Its sister ship, the Disney Dream, will offer three-and four night sailings from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas.

Among the other highlights of Disney Cruise Line's fall 2015 sailing schedule:

    >>The Disney Wonder will sail out of four ports during different parts of the fall 2015 — Vancouver, Canada; Honolulu; San Diego; and Galveston, Texas.

    >>The Disney Magic will sail out of Miami on various cruises to the Bahamas and the Caribbean.

The Dream and the Fantasy, each with a passenger capacity of 4,000, have been almost exclusively based at Port Canaveral since they joined the Disney fleet in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

The Magic also was based here from January until this month, which gave Disney three Port Canaveral-based ships for the first time.

"Itineraries from Port Canaveral remain very popular with our guests," Disney Cruise Line manager of public affairs Rebecca Peddie said. "Caribbean and Bahamian itineraries are popular with our guests, and Port Canaveral is the ideal location for our guests to sail these itineraries and have the option to create land and sea vacations," combining a trip to the four Walt Disney World theme parks near Orlando.

The Magic left Port Canaveral Thursday for a 15-day trans-Atlantic cruise to Copenhagen, Denmark, where it will be based next. It will sail from European ports this summer.

Disney also plans to have the Dream, Fantasy and Magic based at Port Canaveral from January through April 2015. Disney has not yet announced its schedule for early 2016.

The Magic and the Wonder each have a capacity of 2,713 passengers. They were Disney's first two ships, entering service in 1998 and 1999, respectively.

Bookings for Disney's fall 2015 schedule open to the public on Wednesday.
