  • Porthole Cruise Readers: Disney has best Family Activities, Spas, and Children's Programs

CELEBRATION, Florida (November 13, 2012) – Disney Cruise Line was recognized as the Most Family-Oriented Cruise Line, with the Best Spa Facilities and Best Children’s Programs, in the Porthole Cruise Readers’ Choice Awards. As the pioneers of the family market in the cruise industry, Disney Cruise Line continues to develop innovative ways to provide a unique vacation experience where families can reconnect, adults can recharge and children can experience all Disney has to offer.

“We love to delight and surprise families sailing aboard our ships, giving them experiences and entertainment they can’t get anywhere else,” said Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line. “This latest recognition from Porthole Cruise readers highlights how unique and magical a Disney cruise is for guests of every age. Our cast and crew members pride themselves on delivering the most memorable vacation experience at sea, attending to the interests of children, families and adults, and connecting them to the stories and characters they cherish most.”

    New Regional Homeports and Ports-of-Call

Now with four ships in the fleet, families can sail to more destinations with Disney than ever before, from a port close to their own backyard. The Disney Magic is currently sailing from Galveston, Texas for the first time. Starting in 2013, guests will be able to choose from four-night Caribbean getaway cruises, six-night Western Caribbean sailings and eight-night itineraries that travel to Walt Disney World Resort and Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay. In December, the Disney Wonder will begin sailing from Miami, Florida to the Bahamas and the Western Caribbean.

In 2013, the Disney Magic returns to Europe with four-, seven- and 12-night sailings from Barcelona with first-ever stops in Venice, Italy, Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, Ephesus, Turkey and the Greek Isles. The Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy will continue to sail a variety of Caribbean and Bahamian itineraries departing from Port Canaveral, Florida.

While it’s no surprise that “Disney Cruise Line was recognized as the Most Family-Oriented Cruise Line” I think it’s going a bit far to call them “the pioneers of the family market in the cruise industry”. I clearly remember several cruise lines that were taking fantastic care of families long before Disney built their first cruise ship. Of course Disney wrote the press release themselves, so it may not be entirely unbiased. :wink2:
