Norwegian Sky to Go All-Inclusive

Oh no! This I think will turn into a serious booze cruise. No way for us.

I think it already is a booze cruise, and unlimited drinks will make it even boozier! I'm interested to see how the pricing is going be.

I was thinking the same thing...they may start having some of the issues that Carnival has on the short cruises.

Norwegian Cruise Line has announced that beginning January 2016 all guests sailing aboard Norwegian Sky from Miami will enjoy an even more all-inclusive cruise experience with dining, entertainment and now free unlimited beer, wine and premium spirits included.

"We think this is a stand-out change," says Andy Stuart, president and chief operating officer for Norwegian Cruise Line. "The three- and four-day market is an important to us. It's a market where we introduce new people to cruising."

"We really thought it was a way to differentiate Norwegian Sky by making it an all-inclusive product."

Stuart says the line has "no plans beyond Norwegian Sky" in terms of expansion. "It's ultimately driven by demand," he says.

The new inclusive program will launch for all cruises on Norwegian Sky in 2016, and Stuart says "we've raised prices a little bit in advance of the announcement. Over time, demand will determine price."

Guests will enjoy a variety of unlimited premium spirits, cocktails curated by the mixologists from Miami’s Bar Lab, wines by the glass and bottled or draft beer up to $11 aboard Norwegian Sky in 2016 and beyond. Guests three to 20 years of age will enjoy unlimited sodas and juice throughout their cruise.

The goal of the new pricing structure is to improve price integrity in the market and avoid low ball pricing. While other short cruise products sail from Miami, this is one of the first inclusive products. Norwegian said that the line had been trialing a package and guests said they wanted this in feedback.

The new all-inclusive prices do not include taxes and gratuities, or all specialty restaurant charges.

Norwegian Sky sails three- and four-day roundtrip cruises from Miami to the Bahamas year-round.

They may be going after the All-Inclusive Resort customer with this move

David, I think you're right. Many people who have done an all-inclusive vacation but never cruised are under the mistaken impression that cruises are all-inclusive to the same extent. This certainly will attract more people looking to have everything covered in the price.

I can see many cruise lines viewing All Inclusive Resorts as competition
