It's makeover time for the 2,022-passenger Sun Princess, the oldest ship in the Princess fleet.
The 77,000-ton vessel has entered a dry dock in Singapore for a two-week, $30 million overhaul that will bring several major changes including a new atrium with Princess' signature International Café.
Also coming is a new sushi and seafood venue, an updated Horizon Court buffet and a refreshed Lotus Spa.
Princess says the makeover also will include new interior furnishings and finishes, some with Asian-style touches, a nod to the ship's new role operating seasonal sailings in Japan.
Changes to the Horizon Court buffet will include the addition of action stations for live a la carte cooking as well as a pastry shop and coffee bar, refreshed décor and expanded seating. Nearby, the ship's top-deck hamburger grill will be transformed into an al fresco barbecue venue, and specialty coffee options will be added to the ice cream bar.
Unveiled in 1995, the 18-year-old Sun Princess will spend the coming winter sailing in Asia and Australia before beginning a second season of Japan-based cruising in April 2014.
