One of the Eastern Caribbean’s fastest-growing cruise ports now has a major new amenity: free Wi-Fi.
Antigua and Barbuda’s Ministry of Tourism, through the St. John’s Development Corporation, has partnered with telecom provider Digicel to provide free WiFi access to all cruise passengers visiting at the Heritage Quay Pier for the upcoming 2018/2019 winter season.
There will be full WiFi coverage of the Heritage Quay beginning from the edge of the dock through the main corridor of shops and businesses up to Thames Street, officials said.
“The provision of free Wi-Fi access to our visitors from the cruise vessels is a major addition to our tourism offering as technology allows for not only ensured contact with family and friends back home, but for real time updates and the sharing of visual elements our beautiful destination,” said Antigua’s Minister of Tourism and Investment, Charles Fernandez.
“This venture should be looked upon as a major marketing thrust and we sincerely thank Digicel for coming on board with their professional service as an invaluable partner,” Fernandez said.
A total of 10 access points provide a mesh coverage of the area, meaning users are able to browse continuously in any area of the quay without losing access.
