4. refractor, As much as I would like to support another CruiseCrazies member I would have to decline on the optometrist aboard a ship. The fact is, even though prescriptions may be accurate 99% of the time, I may be the 1% that has an inaccurate prescription. What jurisdiction would an optometrist be in if he were traveling on a ship. I believe it's better for me to go to a local one stop eyecare center that does the test and provides the glasses or contact lenses. That way it's convenient and faster to go back for adjustments and the optometrist can test if the presciption is correct.
5. Spikesgirl, Thanks for shedding a little more light on the subject. I understand that the guy would have been more helpful if he threw a lifesaver ring in the water or summoned for help right away. Sometimes it's hard to think clearly in an emergency such as someone going overboard. Perhaps the cruiseline should add instructions regarding what a bystander should do in case they witness someone going overboard and show passengers where the lifesaving rings are on the ship and tell passengers that taking pictures with flash may interfere with lifesaving equipment, such as night vision glasses that the Coast Guards use to see in the night.
6. kay_hi, Welcome to Cruise Crazies! Gregswife and Spikesgirl are right on target regarding asking information from the cruise lines. I'm sorry I can't give you first hand information because I've never participated in that excursion. There's nothing like receiving first hand experience. However, Carnivals site does have an exertion meter for its shore excursions and its usually determined by walking silhouettes from 1 to 5 walkers. The Canopy Adventure tour has 3 walkers. Here's the description for 3 walkers: Considerable Activity Perhaps some other Cruise Crazies have first hand experience. I'm just glad to see you posting and look forward to reading your review.
7. Geosgirl, Bon Voyage and have a great cruise! May you have smooth sailing. Have fun!

9. Jason, Thanks for the interesting article.
10. SCIROCCO, I hope the younger Crazies see your advice as concerned guidance and accept it with the love with which it was meant.
11. The reason why I made that steep climb was because the church was so prominently displayed on the top of that hill. Had I known the climb was so demanding I would have thought twice. On the other hand, old Italian ladies and nuns were passing me at great speed as I was sweating a gasping for air. I noticed some of them had a little chuckle as I thought I was getting ready for last rites.
12. Joanandjoe, It sounds like you are really more organized and quicker than you think. Congratulations on getting everything together so quickly.
13. SCIROCCO, I can understand an experience like that being traumatic. I really don't know what I would do if I were in a similar situation. You're right about young people being more responsible, but I would add that everybody needs to be responsible for themselves in every situation. Did you read the thread where someone sat on a balcony railing. That sounded scary.
14. mercedes, Thanks for the spectacular pictures. It took me two days to get through the Mediterranean cruise pics. I'm going back later to check out Paris and Acapulco. I noticed that when you were in Scicily, you took the same trek that I took to the top of a hill to that church with the tomb of the unknown soldier. It offered a great view of the port. Did you walk it? It looked so close from the ship and then there was this maze of streets to commandeer, all uphill. I got my exercise that day. It looks like Venice has its own leaning tower. When I was there I wasn't sure if one of those towers wasn't leaning but you have the evidence in your photo. I can't wait to see Paris and Mexico.
15. cruiseduo, Congratulations! We're doing the doc dance with you!
16. Starfish Girl, Bon Voyage and have a great cruise! May you have smooth sailing. Have fun!
17. Jamey and Gene, Welcome again. We're going to hold you to your posting often. Jump right in.
18. SCIROCCO, That's breaking news. The last time I heard, both continued with the cruise. As much as I love cruising, I probably would have continued my cruise too, in disguise.
19. When I really think about the experience, I would be terrified out of my mind imagining all sorts of things like sharks and hypothermia. I want to know what she was doing when she fell overboard. If it's true that the woman fell overboard and the brave gentleman jumped in after her, what was she doing? It's important for young people to know so that they don't follow that example.
