  1. Welcome Jenn! I've sailed HAL a few years ago and like it alot. We have done the Western many times. In Cozumel if you feel like a beach try Paradise Beach. Take a cab at the pier. Great little place with excellent food. In Ocho Rios if you like water try the River Rafting. Very restful and lots of fun. Half Moon Cay is a private beach. Great restful day on a lovely island. No suggestions for Grand Cayman since we haven't left the ship for a few years when there. Good luck on your first cruise!
  2. Thanks all! I'll be sure to write a review since this ship has been refurbished and I'm curious to see how she looks. I've always loved the Sovereign.
  3. Another good one is Arts Shuttle. Many people I know have used them.
  4. Welcome home. Hope you had a great time!
  5. I've noticed that lately RCI has been cracking down on the chair hogs. Of course they can't see all of them but I've sailed on 3 of the Voyager class ships and I've always been able to get a chair in the morning or in the late afternoon. If you get there at noon you won't get your pick. Same on every cruiseline.
  6. Congrats! Would have loved to meet you but with 3 cruises already on the books and a 4th coming DH would have my head! Sure glad you dry spell has ended!
  7. They are both pretty equal but Princess limits the number of kids on board. Remember the Florida schools get out much earlier then a lot of the country so if you go later in May you may run into more kids.
  8. Congrats on you new status and Bon Voyage! I'll be at sea when you leave.
  9. Set up a free e-mail address if you need to stay in contact with home. Give the address to only those you need to have it. Internet is 50 cents per minute on Royal and much cheaper then a phone call. Don't forget gifts for those at home and for yourself to remember your cruise. You'd be surprised how they add up.
  10. Have a wonderful time! What a great way to spend a weekend!
  11. Depends on what you like to drink. Wine about $7.00 a glass including tip, Budweiser about 3.50. Sorry can't help with mixed drinks as I don't partake. There is also a drink special each day at discounted prices. Avoid buying those cruiseline glasses as they add to the cost of the drink. Nice rememberance but who needs tons of them? Sorry can't help with Johnny Rockets.
  12. I have sailed many lines but continue to return to RCI for the service. No one cruiseline is perfect, you just have to find the one you like. I'll try all of them at least once.
  13. To save money you can skip the ship's excursions and arrange some of your own. You'll get lots of help here at crazies, just ask. Decide what looks interesting to all of you, you can even use the cruiseline list of excursions, and then just let us know what you want to do and which island so we can help.
  14. Bon Voyage! Hope you have a great time!
  15. Welcome aboard Wkdwarrior. I'll be on the Sovereign next month so if you have any questions I'll be glad to try to help. Dacruznut is right about the extras. We don't buy dinners at fancy restaurants, do the spa often, pay for coffee or ice cream. I've never paid a tax to depart the Bahamas. I believe that is if you fly in. Haven't been on the Sovereign in a few years so I'll be better able to help when I return. Just tell your wife to relax and if she has any questions to just ask. We're all here to help and discuss our favorite pastime.
  16. OMG Jeff! I haven't seen that stuff in many many years! LOL
  17. I've done Alaska 3 times and love it. I've cruised all over the caribbean but Alaska is still the best to me. There are never any bad views. Just the scenery alone without any ports and I'd still go. We've done many things there dogsledding, helicopter to walk on the glacier, float plane to Misty Fjord, Lumberjack show, etc. I can always manage to find something to do in each port. We've done RCI twice and Princess once. All of them were wonderful. Make sure you plan and save for all the things you'd want to do while there. Some of the things are expensive but well worth it in my opinion. Have a great time on your western cruise but think about Alaska.
  18. Celebrity had excellent beef. Better then any other line I've sailed and if you like meat then they are first class. RCI's food is hit and miss depending on the ship. I've never really complained about the food until my recent trip on the Jewel. The food just wasn't up to par with what I'm used to from RCI. Please take into consideration that the head chef is the one that controls the taste of the food and in the case of the Jewel he failed, but I've always found RCI to my liking and hope to continue to do so.
  19. Welcome aboard and congrats on booking your first cruise.
