  1. Hi Rose, Did the Coral last May through the Canal. We did the full transit, but a partial would be through the first set of locks into the lake, then return through the locks to the Atlantic side. Don't remember what deck we were on, but our balcony was "average" in size. Your TA can get the sizes for you.
  2. Welcome Aboard Cathy!! Glad to have you. Don't listen to Gregswife and skip lifeboat drill. They are conducted for a reason. One day you may need that information. And, after awhile they get kind of funny! In any case, glad to have you join us.
  3. Jacketwatch is right, very common event. Most newer ships have refridgerator space for 4 to 6 bodies. No, not where they keep your food!! Given the demographics of many cruisers, not unusual. We were on an internet group cruise a few years back when one of the group died in his stateroom while his wife was in the shower. Massive coronary. His body was removed from the ship at our next port New Orleans and transported back to Idaho.
  4. We are sailing on the 24th, but aboard the Glory. Will wave if we see the Triumph.
  5. Happy to hear about your first cruise booking. Only one year away. The time will go fast and then you will be hooked like all the rest of us. I remeber our first cruise very well and to date we have done 47 of them and numbers 48 through 51 are already booked, so you can see we were REALLY hooked. Been to all your ports of call several times. We will be in Cozumel, Belize, and Costa Maya again later this month. Cozumel we will problably shop and take it kinda easy. In Belize we are going to do the Cave Tubing and in Costa Maya head out to a beach we visited the last time we were there. In Grand Cayman, you've got to swim with the rays at Stingray City. Probably the most fun you will ever have with your clothes on, well you bathing suit anyway Always say cruising is like sex, the worst I ever had was wonderful Forgot to mention the cruise this month will be our tenth on Carnival, you'll love it.
  6. No question about it, we would go in a New York minute!! I'm semi-retired and work only when I feel like it and when they throw so much money at me I can't say no. So, the time is no factor at all. Wife is retired five years now. I'm sure we could pony up the required cash. Our house and pit sitter is standing by, so cast off the lines we're coming aboard!! All this reminds me that I still have two more seminars to teach before we sail away on March 24th. Cutting it close this time. Return to LV on friday evening the 16th and fly to Florida on the 17th. I'll pack for the cruise and Disney World before I leave for the seminar and just move my shaving stuff and I'm good to go. Gee I'll get to see both Oceans in about 36 hours! It's a tough job, but someones got to do it Seriously, we have good friends who sail all the time. He teachs onboard computer classes for Princess and they just flew out Monday and will be gone for 10 weeks this time. They come home for a couple of months and then head out again. Cruise is free and he gets paid based on the number of students in the classes he teachs. His laundry is free, but she has to do her own. Anyway if any of you win this cruise and can't use it, think of us first.
  7. Sirocco, Mine are older, ranging from 38 to 45. Only one of them has ever been on a cruise. That's one of the reasons we took the boys and they can't wait to go again. I have a few years on you, now 72 years old, but still traveling and putting on seminars around the country.
  8. Sailing for eight days out of San Diego. Just booked our stateroom. Come and join us. Great prices (group rates). Great opportunity for all you West Coast CruiseCrazies to meet each other. Email me at: edwynn@earthlink.net for more details. I am not a Travel Agent, just a CruiseCrazie
  9. Thanks Guys, but at my age you have to get them in while you can still enjoy them!! We never planned to get this far ahead, but I'm not complaining. Just thank the Man Above that we are healthy and can still do the things we enjoy most in life.
  10. I think this will work out fine. As another father of four daughters I think by the second day of the cruise, whe will be in the swing of things. A few years ago we took our 13 year old twin grandsons on a cruise. They live in Kansas and had never even seen an ocean nevermind a cruise ship. The cruise line added another 13 year old boy and his parents to our table and everyone had a fantastic time. It was fun for us the see the cruising experinece through their eyes! I think we had become "jadded" after so many cruises.
  11. WOW, never thought I'd see the day when we were booked for 4 future cruises, but, we did it today. This one is for a group cruise we are getting together from Las Vegas. Already have eight cabins booked so thought we had better get our booking in to get the stateroom we want. This is an 8 day cruise aboard the Carnival Spirit out of San Diego to the southern ports of Mexico. Anyone want to join us?? Drop me a note, and I'll send you the URL for the cruise website. I am not a Travel Agent, just a cruisecrazie!
  12. That is indeed a beautiful dream, but as you have already heard "Ain't Gonna Happen." By lunch time the passengers will already be on onboard and they may have a problem of you still being in the cabin. It is not as bad as it sounds. Go to dining room and have a good breakfast, don't mess with the buffet. Keep cool and you will be off by 10 AM.
  13. Hi Kieth and Rita, Great news. You will love the "Connie". We have also sailded on her and stayed at the Yankee Clipper. You will have a blast. We just booked another one an hour ago. A group cruise we are putting together in Las Vegas. The Carnival Spirit out of San Diego on January 24, 2008. Already have eight cabins booked for that one. Come to think of it that makes us stacked four deep. At least until next month when we set sail ong the Glory.
  14. Very interesting. I'm heading for carnivalconnections.com right now.
  15. Joey, I'm guessing they sold because this is a very limited and specialized market which does not really fit into their overall marketing plans. These ships really need targeted marketing which is difficult for a large cruiseline. This small segment would have to carry it's share of the overall corporate overhead and structured that way would be hard pressed to generate the numbers HAL needs. As I said just a guess.
  16. As these new ships keep coming on line they simply add berths which must be filled every week and the competition is getting greater and greater. This is the reason cruising today is no more expensive that it was 20 years ago when we started cruising. In fact, many of the prices are cheaper. They have to fill those berths. This is also the reason cruising has become more expensive AFTER you board the ship. They have got to make up for the deeply discounted staterooms. So we are paying more for everything on board from pictures, booze, "themed" resturants and they are pushing more bingo, art auctions, etc. etc.
  17. Great pictures! Gonna have to put Oceania on my list of "to do" cruiselines. We were just making final plans to sail on the R2 when the line went belly up. Looks like a very special ship.
  18. Carnival has the ships with the water slides. They are high and fast, so they are not for very little tykes.
  19. We are retired. Living in a 3000 square ft. house with pool etc., in the entertainment capital of the world and we've taken a cruise or two (read 46), so I guess we have made our decision. A residence ship would not be for us. A lot of the cruising fun in trying new ships.
  20. I think you have your answers. Yes, Carnival pools are salt water and you've heard about the size of the pools. I think if you floated around on a lounger you would upset many of your fellow passengers for your using more than your share of the pool. Like the other posters, in all of our cruises, I've never seen any pool toys in use. Good idea, but probably not workable.
  21. Good work, whoever you are!! Once watched a retired DC policeman break the arm of a would-be pickpocket in Argentina while on tour. Kid picked this white haired black gentleman on our way into the subway. I heard the scuffle, turned around and this "elderly" gentleman had the kid on the ground with his foot on his neck. Heard him say "You would'nt last 10 minutes in DC, Punk." I'm 72 now and don't feel too elderly. Never had any problems, probly because I'm 6' 3' and about 240 lbs. and many times wear my Green Beret cap which says, "Mess with the best and die like the rest." Think that has anything to do with it?? Anyway I salute this gentleman whoever he was. Well done, soldier.
  22. Yea, yea, yea, the docs arrived today for our upcoming cruise out of Port Canaveral aboard the Carnival Glory Almost exactly one month prior to our departure. Strike up the band, we're dancing tonight.
  23. Good move, Carnival.. Will be boarding the Glory in about a month.
  24. The Majesty was our honeymoon ship, so we're glad to see her ready to go again after the facelift.,
