  1. Does the ship generate its own electricty??
  2. Right on Sari2. Like I said before you are just too good. It is the Sun Princess as seen from Fort Charlotte on St. Vincent. Taken Saturday, August 24, 2004.
  3. When you have to step up to enter the bathroom. Or when you hear a voice say "This is the Captain speaking". or when you go into your bathroom at 2:00AM and when you come out your bed is made!
  4. Your Cell Phone will most likely work in San Juan and perhaps St. Thomas ( my Sprint) works there. Probably will not work in the other ports. You will love the Century. We have sailed on her three times so far. An extension cord helps if you have more than one thing to plug in, like your cell phone and your digital camera or video camera. Cabins have ONE outlet!! We first sailed on the Century on April 13, 1996. We were in Stateroom #8105. The Captain was Captain Karres, our room stewartess was Kat and our waiter was Sergio. How do I remember all this, I keep a Cruise Log of every day of every cruise and by now we have done 41 of them! So start a Cruise Log! By the way during that sailing they filmed an episode of "The Nanny" on board and at Megan's Bay in St. Thomas, very interesting to watch as they filmed. Back to your question, I always pack a small flashlight as well. Enjoy your trip,
  5. Cranky is probably right. It was the last day of the cruise and Roe (who is photographically challanged) was having trouble with the camera for about the tenth time during the trip, thus my expression. And then, pop goes the flash and the rest is history! Jason, post the pic with the real Skipper, I was a much happier camper in that one!
  6. While on board the Sun Princess recently, we booked on the Diamond Princess out of Long Beach and decided to cancel our Legend of the Seas cruise out of San Diego scheduled a couple of weeks earlier in September. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Got home and started reviewing all the details and found we had a better stateroom on the Legend for about $700 less that what we had booked on the Diamond. We loved the Elite Perks on Princess, but $700 is a lot to pay for free laundry service for a week. Shoot I'll do the d... laundry myself for that kind of money! So, the Legend is back on and we will do something with Princess in 2005.
  7. All wrong so far. Hint: That is the Sun Princess in the pic. Now what Islands did we go to???
  8. :sealedlips: If you are planning on displaying a CruiseCrazies sign on you stateroom door don't forget to take some tape along. I would suggest you get some that is gurenteed to to mar the door. I used just plain old Scotch tape which I purchased at the Havensight Pharmacy in St. Thomas on our recent Sun Princess cruise. Made loops to make it act like two-sided tape, but over the course of the cruise the sign became a little dog-earred. I know ships are getting very fussy about how you hang things on your cabin door which is why I did not use more tape and recommend you get a roll of the special tape. Perhaps someone can post the correct name for it, can't remember and it sure was not available in Havensight when I was looking for it, but I have seen it in Office Supply stores. Lots of groups have door decorating contests which can be a lot of fun, but can do damage to the paint on the stateroom door if the proper tape is not used.
  9. My Countdown Clock is running negative since our last cruise and I don't know how to reset or kill it. Any hints will be appreciated.
  10. We have done a Country Western Music cruise and since I used to teach Country Western dancing we had a ball. Only time I took jeans and boots on a cruise! :cheesy:
  11. Slow, romantic dancing to "real music." You know the ones that have a tune and words!!
  12. Had to run away from the computer (Breakfast was ready) and did not get to give you the link where you can get details on every stateroom on every ship. It is: www.cruisestateroom.com You can even compare staterooms and ships side by side as you make a selection for your next cruise. I use it all the time. Hope this helps you and all the other CruiseCrazies.
  13. Dear Dogladyjw, Yep 1558 is aCat JS and has a balcony in is 264 Square Feet and the balcony is 70 square feet.
  14. I'm sure you will enjoy the Dawn. The Sun is on its way to Vancouver as we speak to begin its Alaska season.
  15. Eastern Caribbean (10 Nights) from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida Sailing Date: April 19, 2004 Ship: Sun Princess Ports of Call: Princess Cay, St. Thomas, St. Martin, St. Vincent, Barbados, and Antigua. This was our 16th cruise with Princess. Our 41st cruise overall. This was our second time aboard the Sun Princess. Our first sailing was on October 19, 1996. The Sun Princess is a large ship at 77,000 tons, but no huge when compared to today's mega-ships. Although it had been almost seven years since we were last sailing the ship is overall in very good shape. Here are our impressions: Embarking/Disembarking Check in was the best we have EVER experienced. We arrived via Taxi from our hotel (The Sheraton Yankee Clipper) at 12:30PM. There were plenty of porters on hand to handle luggage Walked right through Security and had no one at either the Platinum Desk or the Caribe Desk, so we could have used either one. We used the Platinum Desk; found that we are now Elite Members of the Captain’s Club, more about that later. Waited for one couple ahead of us at the Boarding Photo spot, had our pic snapped and walked right on board. Total time, less than 10 minutes. Disembarking seemed to move much better than past experiences. Because of any early flight out of Ft. Lauderdale, we were in Red Group #2, which was called while we were still enjoying breakfast in the Regency Dining Room. When we finished eating we returned to our stateroom for a few minutes, picked up our hand luggage and proceeded ashore. When we arrived in the baggage area, our bags were the only ones remaining the Red area. That coupled with the fact that they are red and had straps around them with our names as part of the design of the strap made finding our stuff kind of easy. Customs lines were sort of long both for passport check and exiting with baggage, but we were in our cab to the airport by 9:30 AM with no rush at all. We had plenty of time to make our 11:20 AM flight on Southwest. Ft. Lauderdale airport was less hectic since we arrived back mid-week rather than during the weekend rush. Stateroom We had an ocean view stateroom #304 on deck 9 (Caribe Deck). The room was clean and well kept. The stateroom stewardess did a fine job. It almost seemed as if she had ESP and knew when we came and went. We never ran out of towels and always had ample ice & water. The staterooms are nice size (about 160 sq ft) and have more than enough storage space for clothes for 10 days. All of our suitcases fitted under the bed for storage. We actually had a couple unused drawers! Food The Regency Restaurant is the main dining room for traditional dining. We were seated at Table #166 which IMHO was in a perfect location for conversation and no through traffic passing by.. There is also the Horizon Court & The Grill. We ate all evening meals, in the Regency. The quality and variety of food was excellent. The beef dishes were all superb. The lobster was excellent. Overall, the food was the some of best we can recall on recent cruises. Desserts and breads to me, were great. We ate most breakfasts & lunches in either the Horizon Court or Grill. Breakfast was very good, especially the omelet bar. Lunch was generally quite nice with prepared to order hot sandwiches, as well as a fine selection of other buffet items, the hot dogs & burgers from the Grill were also very good. My only negative comment is that the multiple serving lines which Princess uses on most of their ships seem to cause congestions. Shows There were the usual mix of musical revues and guest entertainers. We enjoy musical production shows and the three presented during the trip were excellent. The guest entertainers were all quite good.. They also had the usual audience participation shows (newlywed game, karaoke, etc). The main show lounge had good sight lines and the seats were comfortable. Seats tended to fill up early. Entertainment The Cruise Director, Janet Evans, and her staff worked really hard and were very friendly & pleasant. The party band was very good. Their music was very good, and they could play anything from country to rock to Caribbean. The casino was not as big as on some ships, but it never appeared too crowded. As Las Vegas residents this area had little appeal for us. Other The pool areas were great. I enjoy the fresh water in Princess pools. The exercise room was more than adequate for the amount of use it got. Even though there were only a handful of stations for internet access, they did not seem to be overused especially late at night.. This probably had something to do with the .50 per minute charge! The gift shops were well stocked and stayed open generally past 10 pm. The photographers were around the ship but never intrusive. Announcements over the ships intercom were kept at a minimum. We enjoyed Brunch with the Captain on the last day at sea. This was a very special event for Elite Members of the Captain’s Club. There were 44 of us on this sailing. Each couple received an autographed picture take with the Captain at the conclusion of this event and were escorted on a personal tour of the Kitchen by the Chief Chef Ports of Call Since we have visited most of these ports of call we tool excursions on Barbados and Antigua. We did Harrison’s Cave on Barbados and The Best of Antigua including Nelson’s Dockyard on Antigua. Captain’s Club The Elite Member perks for those who have cruised at least 15 times with Princess are the best in the industry. Along with all the “normal†perks they include robes and slippers, a free stocked refrigerator in your stateroom (stocked free only once), free laundry and dry cleaning, free shoe shines, priority tender boarding, special event that are truly special! They were outstanding enough that we will have to consider Princess any time we consider future cruises. Overall We feel that The Sun Princess was an excellent cruise experience and we give it a 9.8 on a scale of 10.
  16. Just checking older posts to see what I missed while aboard ship. Outstanding joke! Our Captain came up with a cute one for Public Speakers. Said he used the ABC and XYZ system. That is: Always Be Calm and, eXamine Your Zipper! Great advice to those of us who speak in public.
  17. Yep, we have done Celebrity's Century three times, as well as the Crown Princess. But, not in a row. :cheesy:
  18. Could not have helped you anyway, never went near the Casino or Bingo. After all we live in Las Vegas, so we do not cruise to gamble. I have always found bingo boring, even though I once worked as a caller. That's just me. However, one of our tablemates won over $400 at bingo over the course of our ten day cruise aboard the Sun Princess. Did hear reports that the slots were very tight! Nothing new about that.
  19. Wow Shari2, you are too good!! I did not have a clue!
  20. On board all of the ships we have been on recently the price has been 50 cents per minute (however, have not been on HAL). It is sometimes tough to get a computer even at those rates. I use them simply because Princess makes free usage one of the past passenger perks. However, last year when we were cruising Europe, I found it easier to use internet cafes ashore (and cheaper). As you have already heard there is a Cafe just across the street from Havensight Mall in St. Thomas. Also one just off Front Street about a block from where the Water Taxi drops you in St. Martin. Have used both of these on past cruises. As your Shore Excrusion personnel for locations of Internet Cafes and you will not be wasting your time searching for them.
  21. Hello CruseCrazies, Well, it is all over and we arrived back in Las Vegas at 4:30PM yesterday afternoon. A long, uneventful flight with two stops before arriving in LV. But, once again those free tickets from Southwest got us to and from our cruise! Just burned 188 pictures to CD. So now it's time to get back down to earth. Still stepping up to enter the bathroom and getting hungry when it's time for "High Tea" in the afternoon. Oh for some scones and clotted cream! This was an absoultly fantastic cruise, and I will get a review put together in the next few days, I promise. Jason, I will email you the pic of me with our door sign. Now we have to plan for our next cruise in September. Wish I knew how to reset my countdown clock :undecided: Anyway, it is good to be home and not have to wait for a satalite to be in position to get on the "Net". So many ships, so little time.
  22. All is well and we are at sea for two days heading home. Elite Perks (for those who have cruised at least 16 times with Princess are: Priority embarkation and disembarkation, Free Internet Usage, Free Dry Cleaning and laundry. Free shoe shines, Canapes on formal nights, Upgraded toiletries in stateroom Robes and Slippers, Priority tender boarding, Brunch with the Captain, and much more.
  23. Hi Gang, Greetings from the Sun Princess. Our next cruise will be in late September aboard the Diamond Princess out of Long Beach. Just cancelled our RCI cruise and replaced it with Princess. So I guess you can figure out what kind of cruise we are having!!
