  2. Great review, Spence. Thanks for sharing. My wife and I did our first cruise also on this ship, but then it was the Nordic Empress. We loved the ship, and still think that it was one of the best that we were on. I understand what you mean about how the rough weather felt on the Empress. We were hit with a hurricane the 1st day out of New York on our way to Bermuda on our Empress cruise. I think, all in all, she handled the weather great. Glad you enjoyed the cruise. Howard

  9. WE do have an RCI membership, but we also have a timeshare week in Sanibel FL and we don't have enough weeks vacation for everything. We have traded extensively over the years, and we actually feel that timeshare owing was a good way for us to go. I guess that we will eventually be able to use more vacation time, and that's the reason we haven't sold it yet. Thanks for your input. I have heard before that trading for cruises was not very good. Oh, well, it was just a thought. Howard

  11. I really can't help you with the car rental, but I can tell you about the railroad. The rail ride is spectacular. The sights that you see along the ride are wonderful. The train is frequently riding above sttep high cliffs, raging rivers, beautiful valleys, etc. We took a bus up into the Yukon and took the train back. The bus ride up was nice, but I can't really say that it was spectacular. Lots of lakes and small towns. I can't imagine that renting a car would be much different. There aren't many roads around there. So, as I said, IMHO the train ride is the way to go. Enjoy the trip to Alaska. There is nowhere like it in the world. Howard
  12. Congratulations, Sue!! Howard
  13. There are timeshare trading companies that will give you a cash credit for your timeshare week that you can use toward a cruise. I just don't know how well you really do. If I could trade my week straght up for a 7-day cruise, that would be great. I haven't heard of anyone doing that yet. Howard
  14. Has anyone ever traded a timeshare week for a cruise? If so, do you think that you got a good deal? We have a timeshare in the Pocono Mountains that was great when the kids were young, but now we seldom use it. We were thinking of selling it, but I know that we'll get practically nothing for it. We would keep it if it had any value toward a cruise. Howard

  21. For us, the earlier the better. We feel that since the ship is the destination, once we're on, the cruise starts. We try to get to the dock around 11:30, and we never had to wait more than about 15 minutes until they started boarding. The lines are much shorter early, and the nerves become less frayed. Also, it's nice walking around the ship with less people on board. Welcome to CruiseCrazies, L320 and enjoy your cruise. Howard
