  1. Well there are two sides to every story. I wish we could here RCI's account.
  2. Even with 2 for 1 fares the luxury lines are still very, very high. These days some of them toss in air fare so if you are flying to say Europe then that closes the gap and I think you get the excursions, booze and there are no gratuities. Maybe some day.
  3. Indeed. If the passengers got credit for another cruise that is incredibly generous.
  4. I saw that. Ships can withstand a lot of bad weather but w/o power they are so vulnerable

  6. I wonder as practically all of these workers are foreign what goes on with taxes. Does the cruise, line provide income information like in the US or is it up to the employees to do this to their respective govts.
  7. Three strikes and out! Actually we were hesitant to try them as for a long time their reviews were poor and people I spoke to who cruised them said never again but over time both their reviews and reports from folks I know who used them improved a lot so we gave it a try. However despite this generosity they do some penny pinching things to like adding a $7.95 fee for room service and now not allowing food to be taken to your cabin from any restaurant. Also you have to cruise with them twice to get a chocolate on your pillow at night. Oh come in! What does that save?? Some of these charges seem to just pop up with little or no advanced notice too which doesn't put them in a good light. I hope their execs read the travel boards. I think their product would be much better perceived without this penny wise, pound foolish nonsense. Overall their product for us was pretty good and it won't take much to improve it if they stop these peculiar changes that no other cruise line does, at least for now.
  8. We were in Tahiti when this happened and the family was from the US.
  9. A scene from the Bond movie "Tomorrow never dies" was filmed there. We have a cruise next Feb. with two stops in Nam. I will have to see how close they will be to HB.
  10. Thanks for the link. I could not find one yesterday. We were on a cruise once when a fatality occurred. There was a three generation family on vacation and the eldest lady passed. All of the family except her hubby and a son got off at the next port. The hubby and son stayed on and I still remember the vacant, shocked look the hubby had. So sad.
  11. I read this on another website and can't find a link but there is a report from relatives of a passenger on this ship that it indeed happened. A 10 yr. old girl drown. revival efforts went on for 20-30 mins. but were unsuccessful So sad.
  12. Did the Norway become another ship in their fleet or was it scraped, sold??
  13. We liked our 1st NCL cruise over all but found the balcony on the Getaway to be quite small. Does anyone know if the balconies on the POA are the same or hopefully bigger. Thank you.
  14. My TA said she wasn't too surprised because NCL is making a push to improve. I think they have which is why we decided to try them. As for the ship my big beefs are that there is only one adult pool for 4k people and that they allow smoking on the pool deck. There is an area for this but it's basically open and not vented at all so smoke is basically free to go all over the place. You can't fix the pool issue but you can stop the smoking issue and I hope they do.
  15. Well I just submitted an on line survey from NCL today about our cruise which was largely positive and though I did point out a few problems basically all was fine. So guess what? I just got an offer of a #$300.00 OBC! Today, the same day! Now thats how its done!!
  16. Wow! They have a fleet of giants. No one else can match that though mega ships admittedly are not for everyone. We like em!!
  17. Very good. Also we book our own air for the reasons you have given. We once booked air thru Princess and then the route was not revealed until a few weeks before we left and it was awful. We flew Chicago to Salt Lake, then to LAX, then to Tahiti and back the same way. However we plan a cruise on the Sapphire next Feb. and now Princess air gives you options for flights. From what I saw the prices are competitive too. Now we always take precautions when we book. Go in a few days or at least one day early so you practically eliminate missing the ship and always buy travel insurance.
  18. Wow. I knew other areas in Mexico like Tijuana had problems but now PV?? Man that money lost. The govt. better coz that fast.
  19. Good tips indeed. We usually take local guides as they are less $$ and you are in smaller groups. its a good idea to check out the highlights first so you can deal with a local guide or a cabbie when you arrive. On the getaway they had an NCL channel and there a blip about the Breakaway waiting for passengers to return who had not used a ships tours and were late. They could wait only a few minutes extra because the cost of additional fuel used to increase speed to get to the next port if they waited longer was a staggering 50k dollars! So be sure you have plenty of time to get back. Knowing this I can see why time =$$.
  20. John you completely ignored my points. If you want the last word go for it. I am done here.
  21. You made your point and this seems to be going no where so that's it for me. Good night.
  22. I know this. We all read about it when it happened. All that does not answer my initial question. As for my choice of airlines leave that to me. It's still a 5* rated carrier per Sky trax. And I did look at the links and responded to your post. Read what I said.
  23. Which flight resulted in all souls being lost? Your links did not show this. R U thinking of the Malaysian airlines flight? You provided three links and two were about the same crash in SFO and the other mentioned a possibility of a sudden downdraft? There is nothing there about a loss of all souls. The two crashes you listed had a total of three fatalities. Get you facts straight. In any case my question was in regards to how using award miles are used and not to safety records.
