  1. I think so. In 1941 the US Navy raised and refloated all but 2 or 3 ships sunk by the raid on Pearl Harbour and those ships saw action in WW II. I would think today's technology is up to the challenge.
  2. It's too hard to say. I just hope for resolution for those left behind.
  3. Bringing the Radiance on the Sea into dry dock, cutting a hole in her hull and installing a new engine. Very interesting.
  4. I used to get very early, before 0600 and you do feel like U have the ship to yourself. It's pretty cool to walk around and see the day beginning on a ship. Always enjoy that.
  5. I think so. They should be able to raise her. Rouqe said it well. Should be a very interesting documentary.
  6. I thought that the service and food on the X Equinox last fall was the best we've ever had but I agree that RCI has been and continues to be ahead of the curve when it comes to ship design and it seems to me they are on pace to stay that way.
  7. I already checked next Sun. and its on but 1 hr. later or 1300 CST. I never did watch it much when it was originally airing but then for me I was not interested in cruising. However now I can't wait to watch it just to check out the boat, ports, etc.
  8. Grilled some UDSA choice ribs eyes marinated overnight in soy, OJ, lemon juice, jalapeños, Thai chilis and garlic. Certainly not UDSA prime but not bad!

  9. Just call them the Cincinnati Bungles. :D

  10. The Love Boat. The Pacific Princess. Pretty cool. Gonna record it as the Bears are on.
  11. Had a nice lunch today at Sayat Nova, an Armenian place just off Mich. Ave downtown. Jay and Albrey joined us and I've heard of this place as its been there for like 30 yrs. the food was pretty good and I really liked the Armenian coffee which is thick like Turkish but flavored with cardamom I think so its sort of sweet. Very nice touch. The Armenian style grape leaves are wonderful as is the spicy lamb and the mixed kebabs. Check it out!

  12. Similarly Aloha shirts in Hawaii is ok as business wear in many cases.
  13. They sell them on board and I assume its duty free so I was wondering what cigs cost abroad, say in Europe. http://www.itmac.ie/?content=price-comparison-of-cigarettes-in-europe
  14. MSC Cruises will limit smoking areas aboard MSC Divina to accommodate the North American market, joining a growing list of lines changing their smoking policies. Effective November 2, when MSC Divina sails from Venice to its new Miami homeport, the policy will limit smoking to two areas: the Cigar Lounge and port side of designated outside decks. The Top Sail Lounge, Black and White Lounge and casino all will be nonsmoking (a departure of the policies onboard the rest of the fleet), although some smoking in the casino will be permitted at the casino manager's discretion, according to the press release. As with MSC's other ships, smoking isn't permitted in cabins or on balconies. Royal Caribbean revealed its new smoking policy, banning smoking on balconies fleetwide beginning January 1, 2014. Other lines have recently made changes to their policies as well, including Cunard, Seabourn, P&O andDisney. MSC is an Italian-based cruise line that sails itineraries worldwide. Beginning in November, Divina will homeport year-round in Miami, sailing Caribbean itineraries.
  15. Hmmm. I did not know that he cruised. Always thought otherwise as his shows were all land vacations.
  16. So I learned a little something about wine ratings. Ever been to say Binnys and noticed those 3x5 cards next to some bottles giving a rating, usually for Wine Spectator ? So why is it that $15.00 bottle and a $50.00 bottle both have a rating of say 90? I asked one of the wine guys there who said that these ratings are fro wines in their respective category. So for example a Honda Civic can get a 90 rating say for the economy category but that does not mean it compares to the 90 rating for...

  17. I am glad CCL has done this though also think the pos. effect of this would have been greater had it come sooner. In any case I think cruise lines will survive this just fine and like Mach said some will benefit from reactionary price drops. Our 2012 med cruise price dropped a lot after the Concordia accident.
  18. Just a sign of the times I think. Honestly I have empathy for smokers. I used to be one and quitting was one of the hardest things I've ever done.
  19. Thanks Gina. That wasn't the only health issue on that cruise. A woman in her 90's passed. There was a "code alpha" called overhead one night at about 0200. As it turned out that was their term for a code blue or a cardiac arrest. She was with her family on a 3 generation vacation. Very sad. We saw her hubby a few times afterwards and he looked lost. During the cruise we kept seeing a single female in her 50's just having a ball, dancing with the crew, boozing, etc. Well as it turned out she was on a honeymoon and her hubby had to get off the ship early due to a severe allergic reaction to something on the ship, the carpeting I think. Well she stayed, partied and we saw both of them post cruise in the airport and they looked great together. Go figure. :D.
  20. In 2006 we took a 10 day cruise on the Tahitian Princess, a small ship weighing 30k tons and I made a terrible mistake by booking a forward facing cabin. There was a great deal of sway and my wife became very ill from motion sickness. It was really bad. We tried to relocate but the ship was full. It got to the point where we just may have to get off it was that bad. One officer knew how sick she was and saw her sleeping near the pursers desk which was amidships. Later that day we heard our names paged to report to the pursers desk. This can't be good I thought. This same officer was there and told us an amidships mini suite had become available and asked if we wanted it. Heck yes! He mentioned how he knew how sick she was and thought of her when the cabin became available. He got some crew to move us ASAP and within 15 mins. the move was completed. He saved our cruise. BTW our good fortune happened due to someone else's bad luck. The previous passengers in that cabin had to leave because the husband became very ill. He had several health issues and it got the better of him. I was told they were from NZ and had saved for a long time for this cruise and had intended to visit relatives in the Cook Islands stop, Raratonga which was cancelled due to choppy seas. I really felt sorry for them.
  21. For us shorts is a no no. I do understand how classy real Bermuda shorts look but then again do you allow them only? Then what about golf shorts, cargos, etc. Where do you draw the line? I would think that say 20 yrs. ago cruisers would not even think about not following MDR dress codes but times have changed and more casual attire is acceptable so cruise lines have to change too but for me I'm just not shorts ready, at least not yet.
  22. Watching "Life below zero" on Nat. Geo. Such an interesting show and I'm sipping Jeffersons Bourbon. Hey let them rough it. :D.

  23. Gee I hope it rains. Been in the kitchen all day cutting up and cooking like 10 lbs. of tomatoes from our yard for a marinara sauce and then cleaning like crazy. I still have to water the yard and man it would be nice if it rained. It's real dark now but no rain yet. Feel like chillin.
