  8. Joe, I always book directly..I tried to get phone CS to do something but thier stance was each BW is independently owned and operated and all franchises set their own policy. We were scheduled top do best western on our way back to DC and wv at the beginning of next month... we will now be doingi other brands.. guess that 45 usd per night isnt all they lost
  9. aint that the truth keith,,,and me a former CS manager so you know how I think...LOL oh well the times are a changin
  10. While working on our Panama Canal Cruise for January 07, I came across information to lead me to believe that the hotel we had reserved for ourselves and our friends went out of business and no one bothered to inform us. The Best Western Marina Inn and Yacht Club in Fort Lauderdale closed its doors quietly, I found this out while trying to help others secure rooms for the cruise. While verifying availability for others I couldn’t locate the property on the Best Western website. When I called the Best Western 800 number to inquire why I could not longer find the property on their web site.. All they said is that they were sorry the property closed and would I like to cancel my reservation.. LOL… We would not have known and would have arrived at the airport 2 nights before our cruise just to find out we had no hotel. Luckily I found vacancies at the comfort suite just off the causeway.. but at an increased rate of some 45 usd per night plus taxes.. Needless to say , I was not a happy camper, and for sure we will not be doing business with the BW brand again. Just thought you should have information. Do with it as you see fit.. <]

  20. In all frankness there has been one occasion up to now that we needed a phone...David's work requires him to call in at least 36 hours in advance when reporting back to work.. if he doesn’t do that he has to stay off until he satisfies that agreement. So the technology would be useful on those occasions. My only fear that I may come up with other "necessary occasions to use the phone " That is something I would find unacceptable…
  21. Joe I agree.. it was a cut and paste story from one of the financial web sites I visit.. associated with RCCL I took it as being sarcastic but .. i dont make the news .. i just cut and paste !
  22. (Business 2.0) - Cruisers, rejoice: That stateroom telephone will no longer rob you blind. This year several top cruise lines--including Carnival , Celebrity, Holland America, and Royal Caribbean --are rolling out new cell-phone services, allowing passengers to use their own phones and numbers. All at bearable rates: $2 to $5 per minute for most voice calls, which is far less than in-cabin fees. The company with the biggest upside, though, is Wireless Maritime Services, a Florida startup (partly owned by Cingular Wireless) that outfits ships with base stations that act as conduits between users, satellites, and cell towers. Another new marine cellular vendor, SeaMobile, recently signed up its first customers, Silversea and Oceania. Coming soon to all ports of call: rest, relaxation, and ringtones.
