Carnival abandons New Orleans -- at least for now
Peddler replied to mercedes's topic in Carnival Cruise Line
I'm sure they (NO) will call in Homestead Security and file for some sort of goverment aid declare a National Emergency and sit on theor butt untill something is done. Sorry JMHO. -
Galveston, about 4 1/2 hrs away (250 MI). That's close for Texas. Then NOLa and then Mobil.

Only sailed the Western leg. Grand Cayman has to rank on top with Progreso and Jamaica on the bottom. Progreso is getting better. Later Jim

Dunns River Falls is good. Stay away from the street market just outside the falls. Useally a firm no thanks will do for the free lance sales persons. We'll be going to Mo Bay in Dec and only plan to do shopping in the duty free area and back on the ship. Jamaica is a beautiful island, too bad the criminal element has to spoil it for those that put money in the economy. Later Jim

We had one here at home, enjoyed it, A lot of trouble keeping it up. I did like the late night looking up at the stars. As the saying goes, "BEEN THERE, DONE IT, GOT THE T SHIRT. Later Jim

We prefer early because most people eat late and it's not as crowded . Seriously, we usually eat around 6ish at home and I an early riser and that tend to make me turn in early. We do early dining then the early show, a stroll around the ship and to bed by 10:30. It's worked for me in the past. Later Jim

The above are some really good peeves. Let's add a couple. I recently saw a woman being boarded in a wheel chair. I thought to myself...one of these days I may be just like her and let them proceed to the front. From that point on, she was never in a chair, dancing in a bar, walking all over the ship etc. That to me is more than rude. It is stealing from those that need the little extras. Another is people pushing their way down a walkway aboard ship. They are really not going anywhere because we're at sea and the ship is just so long. We don't walk fast and will certainly give way to those that wish to go by. I guess this can be classified rude. Someone mentioned sloppy people...On our last cruise in the buffet, we walked by an empty table that needed cleaning and I too a second look. There was as much food on the floor and in the chairs as was in the buffet. Who taught these people manners. Apparently No One. I guess this is also rude. My biggest peeve is that I can't afford to cruise once a month like I want to... Later Jim

You and me both!! I think a lot of people are in that same category. I feel that the smaller to mid-size ships are easier to get around. I did like the Voyager but will return to the smaller ships. The Conquest size is about as big as I care for. I can understand the reasoning for the larger ships from a monetary stand point of the cruise lines. If one gets 5500 people on a cruise as opposed to 2700 , it pays more for the same trip. I don't have the answer and I'm not sure there is one. Later Jim

Well we we there in April. I didn't report anything mainly because other than some shopping we really didn't do anything. We walked to a shop called Yaba Ding Ding which was a good local craft store. Question, How is the building at the dock coming along. I assume that it is or will bw a duty free shopping aera. Later

I wil useally take 2 or 3 books for myself on a cruise. I really enjoy sitting on the balcony and reading with a cup of coffee early in the morning. I like Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Jack Dubrul, James Rollins, Clive Cussler, and of recently James Patterson ( Alex Cross series). I have also enjoyed Steve Berry (The Third Secret and the Amber Room). Later Jim

This is as close as it gets for formal night.

Beings' how we are practically neighbors (Ark) I got a kick out of your "Texas Redneck" description! You will find alot of AR boys dressing the same way at "functions" and it is not considered disrespectful. I sailed on the Ecstasy last Jan. and it was FULL of Texans! I had a blast!!! oh, and don't worry about Joey...his bark is much worse than his bite!... Oh I don't worry about Joey. We've had our lively discussions in the past and we respect each other. Good Morning; Well here is my take on the subject; Being an old Texas redneck, I like jeans and boots. As a mater of fact, one will see starched jeans a starched western cut shirt a bolo tie and a jacket in weddings and funerals around here and it is most likely considered formal. I don't and won't wear a tux, but that's me. I think that gentlemen that wear a tux and the women that dress accordingly are wonderful and look remarkable and hope they continue to do so. I do wear a black suit for "Formal Night" and keep it on for the duration of the evening. A cruise is the only time this suit is worn. Funny thing is, up until 2004 for my first cruise, I didn't even own a jacket or slacks. If one likes the formal (tux etc) for sure wriite the company and express your opinion. I think it's really part of the cruise experience.. So as you can see I like to see formal, I just don't see me in a tux. (nothing against Joey for sure) Later Jim

"If you haven't grown up by age 50 - you don't have to!!!" I tend to agree Later Jim

I've done 5 cruises from Galveston. In the past I've looked for motels with a shuttle. This year we're staying at the Super 8 on 61st. They have free parking, Comfort Inn on 61st and Seawall is iffy as is the Comfort Inn on Stewart Beach. The Holiday Inn that's part of the San Luis group is good and have a shuttle. I also understand the Baymont is good with free parking. Hope this helps. Jim

Breakfast in the buffett, by a window. Then A Filet Mignon in the dinning room for dinner.

I am doumbfounded... " Well I've never needed it before" " I'm not a terrorist, why do I need one" " I have plenty of time to get one as I,m cruising in 5 mo." " I just don't understand" If it has to do with my safety and the safety of the USA, I'm all for it. A little inconvenience is well worth the feeling of being secure. JMHO Jim

Jim and Jackie and others ... Do you think that the countries of Europe and other parts of the world are more likely to get a passport for their children at a younger age than we do here?....Do you think those citizens are programmed to be more pro passport because of the international travel that occurs in those parts of the world ... Joey Yessir I believe that they are more likely mainly because the countries are smaller and travel between European countries is more prevelant. We in the USA have been spoiled and now we're having to comply. Later Jim

We started traveling abroad about 5 years ago. Being born outside the USA (U.K.), it was easier for me to have a passport than to lug all the necessary papers. Later Jim

Thanks everyone....I guess we'll just do some sightseeing on our own and a little shopping. No beach, snorkle, or scuba for us I afraid. Later Jim

I understand the addiction...Our first cruise was Nov 2004, and we'll be soon going on our 6th in April. Not quite as many as some, but all that we can do. Jim

Favorite would be Galveston as we can drive to it. BTW it's the only one we've sailed from.

I know there was a combined thread on this port, but what are we to expect when we arrive. Other than snorkling/scuba what else is there in Roatan. Thanks Jim
