Nanapinky, welcome to the forum and congrats on your impending 1st cruise. We have only sailed on Carnival and I love their cruise line, but then I have nothing to compare it with. The couple we will be sailing with on our upcoming Conquest cruise, have only gone on 1 previous cruise and it was on Royal Caribbean, so I will be anxious to hear their comparisions. Our first cruise, back in '95 aboard the Fantasy, was also to the Bahamas. Our ports of call were Freeport and Nassau. We took the kids to Coral World in Nassau, which has a glassed in area down under the water and you can see the sealife up close, and they really loved it. Not sure if it is even still there. In Freeport, we took the ship's shuttle into Port Lucia, and took a snorkeling tour from there. If you dock in Nassau. the pier is very close to the Straw Market, so I highly recommend a visit there. Can't wait to hear all about your trip - I love hearing about a "newbie's" impressions of the whole experience.

For those interested, here is the link of the story on our local news: http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/11493533/detail.html

I was just watching the local news and they had a guy on there from Denver who had taped the rescue of the young man and woman who went overboard on the Grand Princess last week. It gave their names and showed pics of the male. The female is a college student here at CU and the male is a 21 yr. old Air Force Academy cadet, in Colorado Springs, named Ernesto Guzman. They story said that they were trying to re-enact the scene in the Titanic where they leaned way out over the railing when the accident occured. The Denverite said that it happened 6 hrs. after the initial sailing and it was pitch black and you could not see them but did hear their cries for help. He did get video of them actually being pulled into the rescue boat. The man received numerous jellyfish stings and the woman was unharmed. She left the ship and flew home at the first port, but Ernesto continued on the entire cruise. Passengers said he appeared to be undaunted by the incident.

Howard, congrats on picking up the cruise docs. It always seems more real when they are "in hand"...

Well at least I had the good taste to cover my eyes when I was opening the thread. What's that??? No, you did not see me peak, my hand merely had a spasm and slipped off my eyes!!!

Cheryl, wishing you and Wayne a time of renewal and relaxation while on your cruise. You really do need this time away and I hope it is all, and more, of what you are hoping for. You will be dearly missed here, but we know how much you need and deserve this. Bon Voyage, my dear friend.

Dawn, it must feel great to know you will soon be on the high seas again. I do always pay the extra $200 ($100 per person) to pick my cabin because I have to be mid-ship. I feel too much sway at the front and rear, but it doesn't bother some people. Enjoy the anticipation...

Well Jennifer, this is the best place to be for craziness. If you have never seen a cruise ship up close, in person, you will be amazed when you first lay eyes on it. I had no idea, when we headed to our first, that they were soooooo big. Even after 10 cruises, my heart still races when I catch that first glimpse of the ship we are sailing on. Can't wait to hear all about your trip and how much you loved it - I have no doubt that will be the case!!!

Hi there. You will probably want to wear shorts or your swimsuit under shorts. I wore Teva type sandals, as did one of my sons and my husband and other son had on sneakers. None of us had any problems - I assume you are talking about climbing the falls. I hope you have a great time (how could you not???).

Would you use an Optometrist onboard your cruise ship??
Gregswife replied to refractor's topic in Let's Talk Cruise!
Refractor, sorry for my questions - I am just a naturally curious person - my husband would use the word "nosey" but we won't discuss that. I was wondering if this was a service you have seen on another cruise line and that sparked your interest? As all of my previous cruises and the impending one, have all been Carnival, I have no idea what other lines offer by way of services. Are you a cruiser and thought this was a service you would like to see onboard? Please forgive me for prying, I am sincerely interested in the thought process that goes into a venture such as this. While there may be some who would not mind a set appt. time while at sea, for me, the only 2 times that I don't mind being somewhere at a certain time would be dinner and that full body massage. I could see where there might be use for such a service if the focal point of it were mainly repair - I was in need of an eyeglass repair on my first trip to France and did visit an optometrist's office there. Of course, I don't know how profitable it would be - the screw had come out and the earpiece had fallen off. They put a screw in and did not charge me anything (which was a good thing, because on our first trip there, they had not yet switched to the euro system and I had only been there 2 days when it happened and had not figured out the money system, so when I would pay for something, I would hold my francs out and hope they would only take the right amount - now how trusting (okay - stupid is more than likely a better adjective) was that??? -
Happy to see you posting. I can't help you with info on the particular shore excursion, but I am sure if you contacted Carnival, they could give you any info you needed. We will be sailing on the Conquest some time after you - in Nov. Hope you have a fabulous cruise!
