Boy, you plan on stayig busy, don't you Robert? Makes me tired just reading all of it.... -
I answered this post the other day, ut my reply never appeared so I don't know what I did!!! Herb, welcome again, to the forum. Hope you have a wonderful St. Patrick's day cruise and drink one of those froofy green drinks for me. You said you plan to board around 10:00 - 11:00. RCCL must have different boarding times - we have only sailed Carnival and the earliest we have ever been allowed to start boarding is 12:30. I am not aware of anyone on this forum who will be on your sailing, but I am sure they will let you know, if there is anyone. In just a few days, you will be able to say your cruise is "next month"....

I have an international cell phone plan - I wonder if it will cover me at sea, or if there will still be roaming charges. I will have to check on that. I normally only use it in port, to call home and check on the kids and grandson, but it would be nice to know they can reach me easier if they need us in case of emergency. I wouldn't use it just to chat during the day, but if I don't have roaming charges, would probably call every night from the privacy of our cabin, to check on things. I am a worrier and it would set my mind at ease to hear from them directly that everything was fine.

Our first cruise, also in '95, was on the Fantasy. We had no idea of the sheer size of those ships and also didn't know the cruise schedule. We assumed the ship would arrive in port the night before. When we got to Cocoa Beach the day prior to our very first embarkation, we decided to drive down to the port to see if the ship was in. As you all may know, the port in Cape Canaveral is either 2 or 3 stories high. I know the first 2 are used for pasenger services but cannot remember if there is another floor of offices or not. Anyway, we didn't see anything, so we assumed the building hid the ship. The next day, when we caught sight of the boat for the first time, it was quite an awesome moment. We could not imagine it being that large. Now we have sailed on ships much larger - but I still get a lump in my throat when I catch that first glimpse of the ship we will be sailng on. -

Jason, I think your parents will reach that same status at the rate they are going...... -
The first few times we cruised on Carnival, they played Kathie Lee's song "If they could see me now" or something like that as we were setting sail, it was Carnival's theme song for a while. That makes me think of cruising - agree with Keith and Rita on Kokomo, and Hot, Hot, Hot as I can't even count the number of times the wait staff in the dining room have entertained us with that one. Last time we were in St. Thomas, there was a band at the pier and they played Who Let the Dogs Out several times throughout the day so anytime I hear that, I think of cruising too. And of course, it goes without saying, The Love Boat theme.....

Cheryl, our first cruise on Carnival, we were outside, in the muster station, in the July heat for what seemed like hrs. There was a group of young poeple at our muster station who wanted to cut up and so the instructor kept stopping and getting on to them. Of course, the lifejacket made it seem all that much hotter, and we were drenched by the time we got back to the cabin. The next one, was in the lounge and that was nice, but the following 4 were out in the heat again. Twice, we have "hidden" in our cabin (steward would open the door, but luckily did not look in the shower). Then the next cruise, our cabin stewardess was in our room - we had been chatting for a good 15 minutes, when they announced the lifeboat drill and we groaned about how much we hate that part. She told us to be very quiet and stay in the cabin - (she did get an extra tip for that one). Our last cruise, we sailed out of San Juan at 10:00 p.m. - due to a delayed and re-delayed flight, we didn't get to the ship until 9:30. Our balcony faced the water-side of the ship and it was pretty dark out there. As soon as we got onboard, we went to sit on the balcony for a few minutes to unwind from the frantic scurry to not miss the boat. We could not hear the announcements clearly out there but did figure out that the drill was starting. We decided to just sit quietly there on the balcony - we did see the pilot boat go by but do not thnk they saw us. We stayed there on the balcony until we heard people going back to their rooms and then we went inside. I hope that the next one, since we are committed to attend, will be in the lounge. Does anyone know if that is Carnival's procedure now?

Cheryl, I couldn't agree more...we have managed to "duck out" of the last 4 of them, but we are traveling next time with people who have never been on Carnival so we told them we would attend with them. I wish there was a policy that if you had traveled more than 5 times with the same line, you would be excused from it as you already have the drill down...
