Have you tried looking for airfare online. We always book our own because we find better deals that way. We flew to Texas last month and I checked PriceLine, Travelocity, CHeaptickets, Orbitz and all the other ones I knew about and actually ended up getting the best deal on American Airline's website.

Thanks for the info Robert. I will check with our friends and see if they want to go ahead and drive into Galveston on Saturday and spend the night there. It is 50 miles further to drive on Sat. for both of us, but as they are just coming in from Waco, they should be no big deal to them. We will leave here on Friday morning and probably drive about 700 miles of it on Friday, leaving us another 400-450 on Sat. We always fly to the departure city - I told Greg a little car trip would be fun (not sure he agrees) and I think it will be nice to not have to try and cram my formal gowns into a garment bag. Thanks again for the info...

Robert, I checked out the hotel you mentioned as we will be heading to Galveston a few weeks after you. We were thinking about staying in Houston and driving down to Galveston the day of the cruise, but thought about the Holiday Inn n Galveston, because wherever we decide to stay, we will be meeting our friends who we will be sailing with. Thought if we could leave our cars at the hotel, we would save a lot on parking, but this website about the hotel, says absolutely no cars may be parked there while on a cruise. Click the following link and then click on parking options: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ss/1/en/h...equestid=308343 Have you parked there before? I know you sailed out of Galveston on your recent cruise. Was just wondering if that is something you have to arrange directly with the hotel manager or what....

Yes, it will be our 11th Carnival cruise but the first time on the Conquest. You will be sailing much sooner than the others of us here booked on that ship. I have been on the Fantasy twice, the Destiny 3 times, Imagination, Triumph, Victory twice, and the Spirit.

We will be sailing the Conquest Nov. 4 and we have another member, Robert, who is going in Oct. You don't happen to be booked on one of our sailings, are you? Again, welcome to the forum...

My SIL and BIL took their first cruise last Valentine's day for their 25th anniversary. Now, my BIL is notoriously CHEAP. One day, they were laying out by the pool, when they decided to go in for a swim. Brent had to go into the men's room beforehand. He later explained to Pam that he had his underwear on beneath his swimsuit and went in to take them off. He rolled them up in his towel and placed them on the deck chair. Why he even had them on, or why he didn't just leave them on when he went swimming, I do not know, but he is something of an odd duck anyway. After the swim, he put them in his pocket and they got lunch at the lido deck buffet and then went back to the room. When they got back to the room, he discovered his briefs were no longer in his pocket. He said he was going to go look for them and my SIL told him to just forget about it, but as they probably cost more than $1, he was determined to find them. He went to the Purser's desk and asked if they had been turned in and when he was informed that they had not (can you imagine what the purser thought???), he decided to retrace his steps. He asked someone who was cleaning off the tables if they had found any underwear, and they said no. He then saw them on a cart with dirty dishes and trays, and grabbed them off of it. When my SIL told us about it, and how embarrassed she was to go back to the Lido deck buffet with him, we were cracking up. I went and bought a package of BVD's and on the computer, using an iron on transfer, I printed out "If found, please call......then put his name and phone number" and put it on the front "flap" of each pair. We mailed them to him, along with a note saying "this might save you valuable time and some embarrasment next cruise". He really didn't see as much humor in it as we did....

I had tried for many, many years to get hubby to go on a cruise, but he just didn't see the appeal in it. Back in 1995, I bought him a cruise for our family (including 2 teenage sons), as a birthday gift. As it was paid for, not much he could do about it, so he reluctantly went. He loved it and we have taken a cruise every year since, well almost, the year my son had his motorcycle accident and had 3 surgeries that year, we did not sail. We have a motorhome, so Greg likes to spend most of his vacation time "cruising the country" in it, so one cruise a year is all I get for now...

Taxi from San Juan airport to Cruise Terminal
Gregswife replied to Sunbeam's topic in Let's Talk Cruise!
We did, our last cruise, but our plane was about 7 hrs. late getting into San Juan and we had mere minutes to get to the ship, so my husband offered the driver extra money to get us there in time and I will just say, it was a scary ride - but we made it. Thankfully it was after 9:00 on a Sunday night, so not a lot of traffic....
