  14. Remember when spending a day on a cruise ship meant little more than lounging by the pool? Not anymore. The big story in cruising over the past two decades has been the roll-out of ever more options on ships, including -- yes -- access to computers and the Internet. And that computer access now is getting even more robust. Last week, Carnival announced its next ship, the Carnival Dream, would have 36 "FunHubs" sprinkled around its public decks where cruisers not only will be able to tap into the Internet but also access what the line is calling the cruise industry's first on-board social network. Carnival says passengers will be able to use the portals to create personal profiles that other cruisers can see, and to meet and mingle with other cruisers online during their voyage. Passengers will be able to send and receive private messages to other cruisers through the FunHub stations, create groups based on interests, and invite friends to attend shows or participate in on-board events.

  21. Neil Armstrong may have walked on the moon, but he hasn't stepped foot on that most remote of continents on Earth, Antarctica. So perhaps it should come as no surprise the legendary astronaut has signed on to accompany a Lindblad Expeditions voyage to the icy region. In an announcement timed to coincide with today's 40th anniversary of the first moon landing, Lindblad says Armstrong will be on board the line's National Geographic Explorer in November as it sets off on an epic, 26-night journey to the far-flung continent. Lindblad says passengers who sign up for the trip will have the unusual opportunity of spending time with Armstrong -- surely one of the most famous explorers of all time -- as they are "following in the footsteps of heroic Antarctic explorers and reflecting on the future of exploration." The big question, we suppose: What will Armstrong say after taking his first small steps on Antarctica? The trip, which starts on Nov. 15, includes stops in Antarctica, South Georgia & the Falklands. The fare starts at $18,450 per person (special offers available on select cabins).
  22. Kerrie, welcome aboard.
