  1. Carnival Glory launched Carnival Cruise Lines' first extended schedule from Boston with a special Canada/New England cruise that departed earlier today from Cruiseport Boston's recently upgraded Black Falcon Cruise Terminal – the first of 12 voyages from Beantown this summer. Beginning Sunday, June 10, Carnival Glory will operate a series of four- and five-day cruises from Boston to the Canadian Maritimes. Four-day "long weekend" cruises depart Thursdays to Saint John, New Brunswick, and five-day voyages depart Mondays and Saturdays to Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Saint John. Carnival is the only cruise line offering short cruises from Boston and Carnival Glory will offer a similar schedule from Boston in 2013. Saint John, featured on four-day cruises, is a nature lover's paradise highlighted by such landmarks as the Bay of Fundy, with its backdrop of rugged rock formations, and Reversing Falls, where the highest tides in the world intersect with the Saint John River and force it to flow backwards twice daily. Five-day cruises call at both Saint John and Halifax, Nova Scotia's charming and historic capital offering a host of restaurants, shops, and museums. Guests can also visit Peggy's Cove, a rustic fishing village famous for its granite coastline or observe the changing of the guard at The Citadel, a centuries-old fortress. Equally memorable experiences are available aboard the Carnival Glory, which features a 270-square-foot Seaside Theatre poolside LED screen displaying movies, concerts and other programming, a 13,300-square foot spa, four swimming pools – one with the line's signature Twister Waterslide – along with spacious and modern play areas for children, 'tweens and teens, and Serenity, an exclusive adults-only retreat. A wide range of dining venues – from twin full-service dining rooms and a two-level casual poolside eatery featuring a 24-hour pizzeria to a classic American steakhouse – are available, as well. Following its cruises from Boston, Carnival Glory will reposition to New York for a series of four- to seven-day voyages operating Aug. 1 to Oct. 6, 2012.
  2. In what is believed to be the largest Diamond Jubilee celebration outside London, all three ships of the Cunard Line fleet - flagship Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth - sailed up Southampton Water in formation for the first time today, Tuesday 5 June, in preparation for a day of special tributes, celebrations and displays to mark Her Majesty The Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Her Majesty The Queen has long been associated with Cunard, being the only person to have attended the naming of all three Cunard Elizabeths, beginning in 1938 with the original Queen Elizabeth, then in 1967 when she launched Queen Elizabeth 2 and 2010 when she named the new Queen Elizabeth. This is the first time that the three Queens - the largest Cunarders ever built - have been seen arriving and departing together in formation at their home port of Southampton, England. Queen Elizabeth, Queen Victoria and Queen Mary 2 approached the port soon after first light today, sailing in single file up Southampton Water, where a flotilla of small boats welcomed them. Queen Mary 2 turned in the upper swinging ground as Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria tied up close to City Terminal. Queen Mary 2 then slowly passed each ship in turn, creating a three ship formation and revealing a "Congratulations Ma'am" message by her funnel. With crew lining the foredecks of all three vessels, the ships' whistles sounded in salute of Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee. "Cunard is delighted to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen's Diamond Jubilee in a way that gives everyone, especially our guests, a truly remarkable day that they will feel proud to talk about for years to come, taking part in history and marking the sixty glorious years of Her Majesty's reign in fitting, legendary and memorable Cunard style," said Peter Shanks, president of Cunard Line. Events continued through the evening culminating in an evening spectacular when all three ships were again brought within close proximity of each other, and from 10.20pm GMT, a fusillade of fireworks and special effects lit up the evening sky beyond them. Queen Mary 2 then lead Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth in single file down Southampton Water as all three ships set out on their celebratory Diamond Jubilee voyages.
