  2. Recently returned from a 16 day repo from Dover to New York. The only word to describe it is outstanding. First time on Carnival. Duly impressed with service and activities. Great shows. Food adequate but not outstanding. We got a surprise when we left Belfast. Cruise director informed us that we would be the first Carnival ship to transit the Prince Christian Sound in Greenland. At times no more than 1500 ft. wide through incredible mountains and glaciers. We passed many very large ice bergs. Witnessed the Northern Lights on several different nights. On the morning we came into New York harbor a very moving sight awaited us. It was still dark when we passed the Statue of Liberty all lit up. The new Tower being built was brightly lit up as well. Please check out a blog from the cruise director who has a video of the Prince William strait tansit. It is JohnHealdblog. Getting ready to book another cruise. Not sure where or what line but going back to sea as soon as we can.
  3. Thanks. Packing now. Fly to London on Sumday night.
  4. Thanks everyone. Never been on Carnival before. Looking forward to a new experience.
  5. Less than 2 weeks before our adventure to the North Atlantic. Looking forward to visiting the British Isles and Iceland/Greenland. Hope the weather cooperates. Keeping a log so will let you all know how we make out.
  6. We will be cruising out of Dover, England in Sep. We will stop in Dublin,Glasgow and Belfast. Was wondering if anyone has visited these ports. We usually book our shore trips through the cruise line but am seeing some nice looking tours that can be booked online direct. Any thoughts on booking independently. Thanks for any input.
  7. Leaving Dover on Sep 25 for a repo to NY and wondering who may have sailed out of Dover before. Looking to see what is in the area worth doing. I know the white cliffs are there but what else might we enjoy. Thanks
  8. Not at all. Booked on the Carnival Legend in Sep 13 from London (Dover) to New York for 16 days.
  9. 1st cruise was aboard the Premier Cruise Line 'Oceanic" also called the Big Red Boat out of Port Canavaral to Nassau for 3 nights sometime in 1984 or 1985. Of course I did several 'cruises' from Norfolk to the Med on a big gray ship back in the early 60's many times. But that was paid for by Uncle Sam.
  10. 15 years ago it would have been Aruba but the last time we pulled in there I saw a KFC sign and that did it for me. Curacao is probably our favorite. Would like to visit Bonaire also.
  11. Thanks Roger for the interesting review. We have not sailed on Carnival. We probably should do it.
  12. Would someone tell me what 'Reputation: xx' appearing in the posts means. Mine says 00. I feel left out. Thanks
  13. The airline baggage fees are certainly a concern these days. We are flying back from Denmark on Icelandic and they are fairly reasonable with their fees. I agree it is hard to pack everything so renting the tux is a good option. Thanks for your input.
  14. Since I have been away from the site for awhile not sure if this has been discussed. Apologies if it has been. Was curious how folks think about formal nights. My bride and I enjoy them. I have in the past rented a tux but usually wear a dark suit. I know attitudes are chaning re dress up nights but 2 or 3 on a long cruise don't seem to bad. Would love to hear your thoughts on the subject.
  15. Welcome aboard. Some friendly folks here.
  16. Good advice Sunluva7. I have met people on crusies who were sailing for the first time and they were completely lost as to what procedures to follow and who to ask when they have a problem. Research everything about the ship, the cruise line and ports of call. After all a fair amount of money is involved and you want to get the biggest bang for your buck.
  17. I am hoping it won't be boring. England, Ireland, France, Netherlands and Denmark should be interesting since France is the only one of these countries I have visited. My experience in Europe has been in the Southern part around the Med.
  18. If the 'Captain' has all of this evidence that he did nothing wrong why doesn't he come out with it now. Oh wait, he is going to write a book and make lots of money. He should not be allowed to profit from the disaster. I say 'lock him up and throw away the key'.
  19. I guess for some folks 49.00 a day for booze is a deal. I don't drink that much. I have seen lots of people who go on cruises and do nothing but drink. Never quite saw the sense in it. But to each their own.
  20. Very well done sir. I especially enjoyed the Youtube presentation. We sailed on the Crown Princess last year. We did a 7 night from Fort Lauderdale to the Western Carib. Lovely ship.
  21. Thanks John. I cruised on the Independence from 1960-1962. It was quite a different kind of cruise than I take nowadays.
  22. Has anyone done a Northern Europe cruise. I will be stopping in Cork, Ireland, London and Cornwall, England, La Havre, France, Rotterdam, Netherlands and Copenhagen, Denmark. Thanks Thanks Gotacruz for the posting info.
  23. Thanks all. Good to be back. Has anyone on the Forum ever done a Northern European cruise. Trying to get some insight on ports. We are stopping in Cork, Ireland, London, Cornwall, Le Harve, Rotterdam and Copenhagen.
