  1. Click on the little envelope under the person's name that you want to PM. I think the reason MaryLou is recommending this particular hotel is so all the "Crazies" can meet up the night before and have dinner etc....and then all go together to board the ship in the morning. I was on the last group cruise and the night before was a lot of fun - getting to know everybody
  2. Joe, we saw that when we were there, Ver impressive! Did you also see the Titanic memorials?
  3. Thanks Joe. We've been to Bar Harbor 4 times before (on a land vacation), but have never been on a whale watch. Maybe this time.
  4. It was a nice site.....but I didn't see any tour companies listed. For those interested in a Peggy's Cove excursion. Actually the best one I've found is through the cruise line for $40 pp. As I mentioned in the Roll Calls forum, the one private tour company I found does not operate tours on Tuesday.
  5. Please note the "Bay of Fundy Trail Tour"...... http://freedomtours.com/content/151140
  6. I just posted some private tour sites (on the Ports of Call forum) for Portland and Bar Harbor
  7. A tour company in Bar Harbor.....seems to have reasonable rates... http://www.acadiatours.com/ A beautiful place to visit while you're on the island... http://thejordanpondhouse.com/ You can get there and back on the aforementioned (FREE) "Island Explorer" bus. Horse carriage tours of Acadia National Park... http://www.carriagesofacadia.com/index.html
  8. I found a great website for tours out of Portland. We have never been on any tours here before - just kind of hung out downtown when we were there. http://www.portlanddiscovery.com/home/ Also a link to a Dowtown Directory - shopping, etc... http://www.portlandmaine.com/index.php?sec=7&alph=L
  9. Thanks for the pointer, Joe! We are driving, so that really helps us. I found a nice private tour out of Halifax to Peggy's Cove.....BUT....they don't run the tour on Tuesdays.....Guess what day we'll be there??? I'll keep looking for other possibilities. Hector, I hope you can still join us!
  10. That's so true....LOL.......STATUE! I just can't believe the number we started with and now it's dwindling. I still hope more join us.
  11. Oh...that's too bad. Maybe if we get this thread and the ports of call thread going, we will tempt more Crazies to join us. I sure hope so!
  12. I've been doing some research but haven't really come up with any organized tours. I've been looking into things like cheap or free transportation and/or a kind of "name your own tour". The only excursion Zack and I will probably do is Peggy's Cove (Hallifax). Now, when I do start posting this info, should I post it here or in the Ports of Call or both? I've even got some shopping info and walking tours. I'll get it more organized and take it from there. What is our total now?
  13. There are many, many shops too. Good shopping! I enjoyed the island tour - highlights of the island.
  14. Toni, I'm glad you're still considering this cruise. I'm still digging through my travel books, notes, maps, etc....from my previous visits to these cities. I will (eventually) post my findings on the Ports of Call threads that MaryLou set up.
  15. I hope the $3000 was at least for 2 people in a suite. I don't get it either.....Especially to judge "cruising" on just one cruise...
  16. Good article! http://www.cnn.com/2011/TRAVEL/01/28/cruise.ship.divide/index.html?hpt=C2
  17. Yes, we've been to the spy museum in DC.....interesting!
  18. Great review Judson! It sounded like a lovely trip that we would love to do some time. Thanks!
  19. This would be an interesting cruise to be on.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-12127290
  20. I just found a little blurb in my "Traveler's New England Companion" about a neat little side (walking) trip in Bar Harbor - Bar Island: "At low tide a causeway connects the town with Bar Island. Locals will tell you that you must time your visit carefully, or you might be out on the island for longer than you intended. To get to the pathway, from Main St. walk west on West Street to Bridge Street. You can also drive out on the causeway. But there's really no reason to do this as long as you are able-bodied. Once on the island you can ramble along the paths or rest along the shore with its view of the town." We have been there a few times and if you get there near the beginning of low tide, you've got quite awhile before you have to walk back across the causeway.
