  1. Jeez Larry, it seems they could have given a little accommodation here, especially considering this was a 12 night cruise with additional concierge service. As a minimum, the chef could have taken 10 minutes to visit your table and discuss a few options. The chef was either too new to understand the customer service nature of the cruise line, or too arrogant to be bothered with "Special Requests." I'm glad their comp'ing you a specialty dinner for two, but that won't solve the root cause of their problem chef and their clueless customer "service" guy. It would be funny if Gordon Ramsey paid that chef a visit on a future cruise!
  2. We've been on Disney twice, and they had excellent child programs for all ages. One of our sons was four on his first cruise, and our daughter was one year the first time she cruised on the Disney Magic.
  3. Nope, different ship. Now here's something you'll find interesting. In 1959, the ship was sold to a Japanese scrap yard. Hollywood director Andrew Stone was about to film a disaster movie called the "The Last Voyage" which starred Robert Stack. (This movie was just on Turner Classic Movies a couple weeks ago, as part of their November showing of cruise movies every Thursday night). Anyway, Stone caught wind of this and paid the Japanese to let him use the ship for his movie. They actually flooded compartments, crashed one of the funnels, etc. while FILMING. The movie itself was excellent. I didn't expect it to measure up to modern day thrillers, but it really kept me on the edge of my seat.
  4. On a recent trip to Dallas, I was visiting a Half-Priced Bookstore when I found a great book about early ocean liners. It's called "The Great Luxury Liners 1927-1954 A Photographic Record" by William H. Miller, Jr. (Dover Publications, Inc., 1981, ISBN: 0-486-24056-8). While not a complete encyclopedia of that era, it is a good compendium of some of the more notable ships that introduced new technology or broke records, such as Mauretania, Ile de France, Bremen, Rex, Normandie, the Queens, and the United States. There are 101 different ships featured. The book includes 186 photos (B&W), a short bio for each ship, and minimal stats. If you were fortunate enough to travel on one of these ships, or if you just enjoy looking at the clean, low profiles of ships from that era then you might enjoy this book. I know it's 30 years old, but you might be able to find an old copy on-line. By the way, does anybody out there own this book?
  5. Hey Rob! That monkey looks familiar. The little scammer....
  6. We collect the Christmas ornament ships, if they have them.
  7. Wow, what a cruise. I knew this line was just getting into the passenger business after success with cargo, so I didn't expect them to have the service part down, but I thought that at least the food would be good. I'll take your advice and stay away from MSC. BTW, I loved reading your review, even though it was a bad one. You have a great sense of humor.
  8. I really enjoyed reading this post, and trying to visualize this place that you fell in love with. The picture in my mind probably isn't precise, but it doesn't matter. It sounds like an interesting locale, with lots of history, that you're able to revisit each time you open that honey jar. BTW, isn't it time to place another order? I hope you make it back there, soon.
  9. Rose, it's too bad you had so much rain in St Martin; but I'm glad that you still enjoyed your monthly cruise!
  10. Have a great cruise. And don't forget to hit the gym!
  11. Looking forward to Croatia. Photos I've seen are just amazing.
  12. MaryLou, Here's Crazie's last itinerary with us: Emerald Princess March 18 - 28, 2011 Ft Lauderdale > Antigua > St Lucia > Barbados > St Kitts > St Thomas > Princess Cays
  13. MaryLou, we've cruised with her twice -- Spring Break for 2010 and 2011. Do you need the details, or do you have them?
  14. Always, and unfortunately, we've had to use it. Glad we had it though.

  16. Thanks for posting your review Mimi. I'd like to do a Transatlantic crossing someday, but will probably look at RCI since they have more activities than what you described. At least you got the room upgrade and had a good steward. That internet manager was probably working on his resume!
  17. Great to hear from you Danny, and thanks for doing this.
  18. Looking forward to reading your blog, Danny, and welcome to CruiseCrazies.
  19. Have fun Beach Bum and Spanky. I hope the weather cooperates.
