I think it all boils down to doing your homework......but surprisingly, there are a number of people who don't do that!

We sailed out of Galveston on the Grand Princess...before the last hurricane. We came down the day before and had a very nice time walking the strand and sitting on the beach My Sister and Hubby joined us - they live in Houston - so very convenient for them! I would sail from there again; and would consider an itinerary that included Galveston as a port stop...

Actually it is only three-quarters of my whole review, and I didn't even know that it posted successfully because I couldn't get back on the site until just now - it kicked me out again! Just glad to have something posted. All in all, we had a fabulous cruise and would sail on the Explorer again! They were the "friendliest crew at sea" - which is how they like to bill themselves. They truly were!

I'm not quite sure what to make of this article........ I am saddened by the stereotype that all cruise passengers want to do is shop...... My husband and I go mainly to learn about the islands - the history, peoples, customs. We do shop, but we always try to include local crafts or products specifically made on that island. Having said that - I will not go to Jamaica again, and if I did, it would be strictly with an excursion or to an all-inclusive, because of the aggressiveness of the vendors, and even the expectation of a "tip" by a policeman who pointed the direction back to our ship (which we could see in the background!) I think the bigger issue is the way the island governments distribute (or not) the port taxes and revenues from excursions, etc. to the people......

Thanks, Mary Lou. I would agree that on our Summit - Bermuda cruise the crew was very business-like - not as friendly and outgoing as most. On that cruise we had My-Time Dining but they did not seem to be able to coordinate that right either - advance reservations did not seem to make a difference....quite disorganized. This was not the case on the Infinity so I am wondering if the DR management is not quite up to par? Glad you were able to take it with a grain of salt (thrown over the shoulder, perhaps?!)

Hi Steve, So sorry to hear about your experience. I have been on the fence about these biggest ships....it just seems that it would be hard to keep up service-wise and quality-wise with a population that large! We love RCI as well, but will probably stick to the older ships for now, especially the Voyager class and Radiance Class! Hope your wife was able to get her bracelet fixed and that your car will be okay!

Check out my posting in this forum entitled Ft. Lauderdale Hotels! One in particular, The Atlantic just might suit your pre-cruise hotel on the beach. And it is within walking distance of restaurants, other hotels and a CVS drugstore. We found the Atlantic to be every bit a 4+ - 5 star hotel........great rooms, great restaurant, AND free internet in the rooms!! The beach is right across the street! We stayed two nights pre-cruise last February and will definitely return! We have stayed at Pier 66 as well - nice hotel - nice pool, in particular....on the Intercontinental Waterway so you can use the water taxis to get to Las Olas Blvd. and the Riverwalk. Hope that helps!
