On our last three Celebrity cruises they hosted several Zumba events each week – all free of charge! Of course that could very well change with the addition of the Xbox component – but let’s hope not!

We don’t play a lot of video games but being on vacation is all about trying different things for a lot of people. Having options is always good!

Thanks for the breakdown. It seems like each company is run largely independently for the most part, regardless of what parent company they have. It’s actually a very good strategy to appeal to a broader customer base. Just like those companies that own several different restaurant chains. Some people like seafood while others prefer Italian – it’s good business sense to be able to capture both of those customers.

We were lucky enough to see a group of humpback whales bubble net feeding while we were on a whale watching tour in Juneau last year – truly amazing!

We’ve been on several pre-inaugural and first-after-refurbishment cruises (one of the advantages of living in Florida – a lot of times the cruise lines will have a couple of one- or two-night cruises to nowhere to fill the days until the proper start date for their weekly itinerary). Here’s something they don’t tell you: the ships are almost never ready for those first sailings – they are always still working! One Norwegian cruise we had no air conditioning in our cabin. They were finally able to move us to a different cabin after midnight. One Celebrity cruise didn’t have any window treatments in the public areas and they were working on hanging the art on the walls. One Royal Caribbean cruise had plumbing issues and they were still installing the carpet in the hallways. (That was pretty bad. I guess there was a lot of carpet fiber dust and it led to plenty of sneezing and itchy eyes.) Those were all “first cruises” for the ships (or one of the first sailings). We’ve also been on more than one cruise where a swimming pool has been closed for a day or two for whatever reason. I don’t want to defend Carnival here – the ship should have definitely been ready and perfect – they even had extra time! Every cruise line should have their new or refurbished ships ready for passengers. But I’m wondering if this isn’t another case of something that wouldn’t normally be news if it didn’t involve Carnival – they seem to be the media darling right now when it comes to hyping up negative stories.

We have a good friend who prefers to have her own room so this is great news! (And everything else sounds really cool too!)

I had no idea Holland America had this much computer training available – and at no extra charge! I wonder if I can convince work to send me for the classes? I’m sure it’ll improve my productivity and performance, right? Plus I won’t need to use any vacation time because I’ll be “working”!

I don’t think it’s cause for concern. Norwegian offers a uniquely well-marketed product and the company seems stronger than ever. Their newest ships are certainly commanding premium prices!

Obviously this particular cruise is being designed for and marketed to people living in China, but I really like the idea of an around-the-world cruise! Right now that’s an impossibly long time to be away from home/work, but someday…

Good advice Jan. As long as you’re alert and aware of your surroundings any potential wrongdoers will likely move on to an easier target. But alert and aware of your surroundings also makes for good, observant sightseeing – don’t ever let fear detract from enjoying your vacation!
