  1. Our first trip to Juneau we enjoyed the river raft tour but the highlight of the port was when the cruise line brought aboard Iditarod champion Libby Riddles to give a fascinating presentation. We even got a great photo with two of her sled dogs! Our second trip to Juneau we did an exclusive whale watching (just four passengers on the boat) for only $10.00 per person more than the super-crowded boats! We saw plenty of whales and otters and eagles, but the highlight was watching a group of whales bubble feeding! Afterward we still had time to take the free shuttle over to Mendenhall Glacier (next time we plan to spend a lot more time here) and do some quick shopping.
  2. No real surprise – everyone just can’t wait to try the giant ships!
  3. We’re seeing some great prices on Carnival cruises that we wish we could take advantage of – we just can’t find dates that work for us. We’ve kind of used up all our vacation time and then some for the year!
  4. Have a fantastic cruise! We’d love to hear all about it when you get back!
  5. Welcome to CruiseCrazies! We all love cruising and this is a great place for help planning your next trip and talking about past adventures!

  10. Our first trip to Skagway we did the long version of the White Pass & Yukon Route railroad tour. The ride was pleasant and the scenery was amazing, but we had to go right from ship to train and train to ship – so we didn’t have time to actually step foot in the town! Our second trip to Skagway we took a helicopter ride that landed on a glacier where we had a guided hike – fantastic experience! Afterward we had plenty of time to explore town and have a snack at the Skagway Brewing Co. We found some great trails and hope to just go hiking on our next visit!
  11. We’d definitely be interested in something like this, but it’ll have to wait until we can string together more vacation days into one trip. It’d just be wrong to travel that far and only go on a short cruise!
  12. You’re right, that doesn’t seem like a very steep fine, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see additional fines in the future outside of these “administrative sanctions”.

  14. We were aboard one of the first ships (Carnival Fantasy) to visit the then-new Grand Turk Cruise Center back in early 2006. Almost nothing was open yet but we loved the port! We’ve visited since and liked it just as much with everything open. Hopefully all the issues have been resolved so more cruisers can enjoy this port!
  15. We haven’t visited Haines yet but we’ve seen it while sailing in and out of Skagway a couple of times. In light of to the above comments we won’t look for an itinerary that includes Haines but we certainly won’t avoid it either. Regarding the eagles: we stare in awe at these majestic birds – just like all the tourists – but more than once we heard locals refer to them as “the pigeons of Alaska”! I guess it’s all about your perspective!
  16. We’re heading to the Hawaiian Islands for the tenth time later this year (only one of those trips was a cruise though) and Kauai is by far our favorite island! We could go on and on about all the wonderful things to see and do here, but there’s one thing we want to stress: Eat on the island! For many years we were among those cruisers who always went back to the ship to eat no matter what – after all, it’s already paid for, right? But we’ve found many restaurants in Hawaii to be simply amazing – it’s just such a unique mixture of styles and flavors you can’t find anywhere else!
  17. Wow – some of these cruises sound really marvelous! We think Oceania Cruises will be a good fit for us – we just haven’t come across the right combination of itinerary and value to give them a try yet.
  18. We would commonly spend time up on the tops-optional deck when they were available simply because it was quiet and kid-free! One time we did catch a friend of ours “reading” a book upside down while a couple of dancers were working on their tans though…

  20. Thanks Paul – very interesting! It sounds like the crew’s work is never done!
  21. We haven’t had the chance to visit Sitka yet but it sounds very nice. We’d love to be there for one of the musical events in a park that you described!
