    Way back at the start of our first cruise, the ship had to make an emergency stop at Cabo San Lucas to get a woman who had gone into early labor to the hospital. By the end of the cruise it was announced that Mom and baby girl were both fine and that the parents had chosen “Jubilee” for the baby’s middle name – that’s the name of the Carnival ship we were on!

Just like most other cruise line policies, this one is in place to protect their guests. Shipboard medical facilities are not really equipped to take care of emergency premature labor and some of the ports that are visited may not have the necessary facilities as well – so why risk it?

    You are so right about the kids’ club Kevin! Our friends with kids can’t say enough good things about it and Disney really works hard to make sure it stays outstanding. We had some friends who wanted to book a Disney cruise (a couple with two kids, age 6 and 12) but Disney wouldn’t let them bring the 6 year old because the kids’ club had reached capacity for that age-group even though there was plenty of room on the ship overall! (They ended up going a different date and were perfectly happy.) I think every other cruise line just counts the total number of passengers, not how old they are. It’s interesting that Disney would “turn away” passengers rather than potentially sacrifice the quality of the experience for the 6 year old. Of course, if the kids are happy the parents are happy, and they’ll come back for more! (Plus I’m sure Disney ends up filling their ships just fine, even with the age-group capacity restrictions.)

    It’s been almost 4 years since the last time we sailed with Princess. We haven’t been avoiding them at all, it’s just that nothing’s really come up where a Princess ship or itinerary was really the best choice for what we wanted to do. These new ships they’re putting out look wonderful though. We may need to start looking for the right sailing to visit one of them! Of course all the other ships mentioned in this article look fantastic too! So many cruises, so little time!
