  1. Did you know? Repositioning cruises are a unique and affordable way to vacation and experience a number of ports around the world! Low prices, lots of relaxing sea days and interesting itineraries make a repositioning cruise an attractive vacation option. Most often taking place during the shoulder seasons of fall and spring, this interesting cruise option allows you to sail to unusual and off-the-beaten track locations when a cruise ship relocates to another region for the new season. Repositioning cruises vary in length, usually longer than your typical sailing, from 10 days to several weeks. Leaving from major ports such as Miami, London, Rome, Buenos Aires and Anchorage, repositioning cruises allow the unique opportunity to explore multiple destinations and even different continents around the world. Common itineraries include transatlantic voyages form the Mediterranean to the Caribbean in the fall, or the reverse in the spring, or sailings from Alaska to Hawaii. There is an endless combination of itineraries offered throughout the year as ships move from one region to another. What better way to save money on cruising than to relax onboard a resort-style ship as you cruise to or from seasonal cruise regions like Northern Europe, Panama Canal, Hawaii or Asia!
  2. Those minis go fast because they are fully covered with larger balconies. Grab it while it’s available.?
  3. Here is the official parking info at the cruise port: https://sfport.com/cruise-parking You can reserve a spot ahead of time. We didn’t park, as we walked to the ship from our hotel. Dolphin deck is all uncovered minis. Can you switch to one on Emerald deck? Those are toward the back and they are covered. Yes, each guest is allowed to bring one bottle of wine or champagne. There is a $15 corkage fee if you bring it to the dining room. If you drink it in the cabin, there is no charge. 4. Jeanette, if you have a balcony on Dolphin Deck, then you must be in a minisuite, am I right? You probably know that the balconies on Dolphin are fully open to the elements and have no covering. Just wanted to point that out so you’ll be prepared in case your agent didn’t tell you. Some people don’t care, but others like that cover or partial cover in case it rains. Excursions will depend on what you want to do. I have used some great local tour and flightseeing companies, so if you’re interested, message me and I’ll share them. I tend to go with local providers who can provide a small group tour rather than big bus tours. I did love the whale watch/nature hike through Princess, though, as the guides were great, and it was a small group, which is unusual for a cruise ship tour.
  5. Hi Jeanette - I love the Grand Princess. We sailed her twice - our very first cruise in 2002 to the Caribbean, and again 10 years later to Alaska. Anything particular you want to know about? If you like whale watching, Princess had one of the best we’ve ever done - a nature hike/whale watch photo safari. We did a short hike to Mendenhall Glacier followed by the best whale watch on a small boat with about 10 people. Tips for Alaska: Don’t forget binoculars. Dress in layers and bring rain gear, as the weather is very unpredictable. Bring gloves/hat/scarf for glacier viewing. Be outside on the upper decks in Glacier Bay (if it’s on your itinerary) for the best views. Have a great cruise!
  6. One of the most confusing things for travelers when booking flights are the names on the reservation. As we all know - or should know, especially if booking our own flights - airline reservations require names to exactly match those on the guest’s passport or ID. But what about middle names? According to theTSA and Homeland Security travel requirements, middle names are not required, even if the middle name is spelled out on the passenger’s passport or traveling ID. In fact, by omitting the middle name, you avoid confusion as to whether to use middle initial or middle name, or in the case of some, having to squeeze 2 middle names on the reservation. You also avoid the annoying running of two names together on the flight reservation, i.e. “John Paul Jones” becomes “Johnpaul Jones”. When TSA states the requirement that names match ID, they are not concerned with middle names, only the accurate spelling of first and last. For instance, if the passport says “Thomas Smith”, then “Tom” Smith is unacceptable. I hope this clears up the confusion and makes your next flight reservation go easy.?

  11. Makes me wonder if the cruise lines gave much thought to where they would put these ships once they built and loaded them with 6,000 passengers.?
  12. It’s a double edged sword. Cruise ships are getting outrageously huge, but some ports aren’t prepared. I personally dislike the whole process of tendering, and it’s even a more complicated ordeal on a ship with 6,000 passengers.
  13. I am sure the relief and repair workers in Boston will greatly appreciate it.?
  14. Kodiak is a nice change from the usual visited Alaskan ports on most itineraries.
  15. I love the fettuccini alfredo on the Princess “every night” menu, and David and I will sometimes share a plate with our entrees. On the Epic, we tried the Noodle Bar, which was really good - probably my favorite meal of the whole cruise!?
  16. Thanks so much, Shari and Andi, though I did have to double check my dates to see if I really was sailing in 4 days. My heart stopped for a minute, thinking I was going to miss the ship.? We actually don’t cruise until October 27th, but you’re right - I better start thinking about packing!
  17. Did you know that October is #Choosecruise month? It's the perfect time of year to plan and talk cruising! Today, October 6th, is National Noodle Day. Who knew?
