EL EDEN<>NEW PALTZ

alt text

New Paltz is a four-season community -- a year-round vacation spot -- for your entire family. Located in Ulster County at exit 18 off the New York State Thruway, New Paltz is nestled between the majestic Shawangunk Mountains to the west and the scenic Hudson River to the east. Its breathtakingly beautiful countryside makes it a premiere stop for a weekend or week-long visit -- summer, autumn, winter or spring.

Founded by French Huguenots in 1678, the village boasts the oldest street of original houses in America. Beautiful stone structures (many featuring original furnishings, machinery and tools), a reconstructed French church, Huguenot Museum, and comprehensive historical documentation make New Paltz a fascinating step back in time.

Take a stroll along one of the many quiet tree-lined streets; walk to the nearby State University campus and visit the art gallery or take in a musical or theatre performance; hike or bike the many neighboring hills and back roads with a splendid mix of 17th century homes, interspersed with more contemporary structures.

New Paltz provides year-round excitement with craft fairs, concerts, theater, art galleries, county fairs, antiquing, swimming, picnicking, tennis, golf, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, canoeing, rock climbing and more.

ZANZIBAR<>RIDGEWOOD

Ridgewood, old-fashioned and respectable, are German-American communities spreading northeast of Broadway. Comfortable brownstones with neat stoops and polished brass give the district an atmosphere of calm quite unlike that of the usual strident Brooklyn neighborhood.

Ridgewood, the region near the Brooklyn Queens borough line, was settled in the early eighteenth century by the English, who first called it the "Ridge" for its most salient topographical feature.
