Back to Back Cruises on the Same Ship

I noticed that some of our members took back to back cruises within a short period of time on the same ship.

Was the ship that exciting or were there special occasions that caused the second booking on the same ship within a few months?

If the ship is that great it might be a really good hint for the rest of us.

Of course, we'd ask you Cruise Crazies first.

I'm sure you will get several different answers, since People often do the same thing for different reasons.

One of the reasons that people do a back-to-back is to enjoy a 14-day cruise. To some, even the 10-11 day cruises that are offered are too short. Many ships leaving South Florida alteranate an Eastern-Carribean, and a Western, on a weekly basis. By booking a back-to-back you get two separate itineraries and a full two week cruise.

Sometimes people develop an affinity to a particular ship. I had such a relationship with the Britanis... I sailed on her 12 times, over a 4-year period, and wound up going twice in the same month, once.

I'm sure you will get more replies, with different reason.

I have done back to back cruises on the same ship. I have done back to back East and West Caribbean and I have done back to back going to the same ports.

One advantage is sometimes you may get a price break on the second sailing.

Another advantage is you only pay for air once.

If you are going to different ports each sailing that is an advantage in that you see different things.

If you are going to the same ports you do not have to rush in the ports the first sailing because you know you will be back shortly and can see more at that time.

Another advantage is you get to know the ship real well and find the places you like onboard.

The crew gets to know your likes and dislikes real well.

The disadvantages are that you will be seeing the same meals and the same shows. The advantage to this is if you found a meal you didn't like you don't order it next time and if you found a meal you did like you can order it. You also do not have to worry about missing a show you can see it the second sailing.

  • 8 months later...

We did a different type of "back to back" a few years ago. Sailed a week on NCL Sky, disembarked, walked down the pier in Ft. Lauderdale and boarded the CCL Paradise for a second week of cruising.

We did it basically for the reason someone has already pointed out. Air to Florida from Las Vegas was the same for two weeks and for our normal one week cruise.

BTW, we had a great time on both cruises.

We will be doing our first back to back cruise on the Voyager in May of 2005. First we will do 5 days to Bermuda then stay on-board for 9 day Caribbean, going to Labadee, Ocho Rios, Cayman Islands and Freeport.

Can't wait - 14 days of total relaxation and pampering. :cheesy:
