For what it's worth, I would have done the same thing. I've booked my air on 3 cruises and the only time I was burned was because of 9-11. I'll always check the various options and book what I feel is the best deal, based on cost, timetable, and airport. If the best option is with the cruise line, then fine, but I won't feel nervous about booking on my own on the off chance a cruise will get changed.

I rarely book my air through the cruise line unless it is an open jaw flight (example arrive in Vancouver and depart from Anchorage). If I can't find anything reasonable and can get with deviation, I will book the cruise line air. That is always my last option though. I can usually get where I am going for hundreds less than the cruise line wants.

Don't feel bad Mebert--we have booked our own air and so far so good. If we had booked on that same cruise out of San Juan we would have done as exactly as you did. The only time we let the cruise line book our air is in the winter for the obvious reasons, or for our Alaska cruise for the same reason stated by sailinglisa.

It sounds like another cruise line on or near that date would be a good choice.

Mebert, we also book our own air (unless it's one-way or an open jaw as Lisa mentioned) -- we are a family of three and the savings is substantial, plus we get to choose our flights without paying a deviation fee.

I would have done the same as you. Hopefully, you can find another cruise that will allow you to keep your air arrangements.

Thank you all for your support. You are showing more and more, everyday that this is the best cruise board on all of the web simply because you are able to make me feel good.

I don't feel so stupid or jinxed now.

I'm slowly getting over the shock of having the rug pulled from under me because of all of you kind people.

I am seeking alternative plans with a cooler head at this time. I hope my T.A. will be helpful. I also surprised that the travel insurance did not cover such an event or at least reimburse the change of plan fee.

I don't know what I would do without Keith and Rita, Lisa63, sailinglisa, Dan, GottaCruz, Jason, DaCruzNut, Shari2 and gogetter.

Even newcomers have been helpful. Thank you PEB, aliceunderground, and cruising2day.

If I didn't know why I participated on this board, you've helped me learn it today.
