If you contacted the flu just before your departing date, would you cancel? We are less than a week before we leave for Tampa and have been trying to avoid crowds. It is very hard to do at this time of the year with the Christmas parties and get togethers with the family. The flu is wide spread here in the Midwest. I have had a flu shot, however, Rita is allergic and has not. Would a cancellation due to the flu be valid for your cruise insurance? What do you think? Inquiring minds want to know! :P :P

C'mon, guys....let's not be pessimistic! Why even think about contracting the flu? Yes, I'd check to see if the Cruise Insurance covers it, and would consider cancelling, if it does. If it doesn't, take a chance! They even have lozenges, now, that get rid of a cold in 2-3 days....

And, remember....

Gray skies are gonna clear up

Put on a happy face

Wipe of the clouds and cheer up

Put on a happy face

Take of the gloomy mask of tragedy

It's not your style

You'll look so good that you'll be glad

That you decided to smile

Pick out a pleasant outlook

Stick out that nobel chin

Wipe off that full of doubt look

Snap on a happy grin

Spread sunshine all over the place

And just put on a happy

Put on a happy face

Gray skies are gonna clear up

Put on a happy face

Wipe off the clouds and cheer up

Good question, Keith!

I think that if my insurance covered it, I would cancel and go another time. I don't know what I would do if it didn't cover it. It's pretty hard to travel when you're sick. I know before my last cruise, I was also trying to avoid parties and anyplace where there would be a lot of people, but you never know where you might pick up the germs.

On my Hawaii cruise, ten years ago, I came down with the worst flu I had had since the Hong Kong flu in the '60s. Everyone was sick at work before I left, and it was making me pretty nervous, but I made it to Hawaii and spent two nights at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, and I was just fine. We boarded the Constitution on a Saturday, and the very next day, I got sick. I thought I had pneumonia at first, because I rarely had chest coughs, but it was a bad flu.

I tried to rest in bed for the first two days, as I had the fever and the whole works, and I also didn't want to pass it around to others and spoil their vacation. The rest of the trip, I took about 8 tylenol a day,(and I hate taking medication) and went on tours, etc. I tried to stay away from people as much as I could, but it was tough. When we got off the ship my DH got sick, and we spent our last two days on shore in the hotel. I don't know how I did it, really, but I still look back on that trip, as a good one. It was my dream trip, and I was just glad to be there. This is probably more than you wanted to hear, though. lol

After all that, I don't think I really answered your question. On whether the insurance covers the flu, I'm not sure, but I'm sure going to check on it now. We didn't have insurance on our Hawaii trip, but we did on our last one, and we will from now on. It seems like it should be covered if your doctor says you are not well enough to travel. I would sure check on it...I'm going to check on ours for our next cruise for sure!

Hope I didn't sound too negative, but things do happen. I would try not to worry, though, and take vitamins to boost your immune system. They say to keep washing your hands a lot, and get a lot of rest to keep your immune system working right. One thing I do over Christmas when we have pot luck type parties with family and friends is, that I don't eat anything that anyone with a known cold or flu has made, and I don't hug or kiss them. :( Have to give them a hug next time.

Forgot to say what works best for me now to avoid the flu when I travel...I pray a lot!
