Star Cruises has started its Asian fleet rejuvenation exercise following the disposal of SuperStar Capricorn to Viajes Iberojet, S.A.

In a statement yesterday, Star Cruises in announcing the sale of the 28,000 gross tonne cruise liner said, “The sale is part of a larger overall strategy which involves fleet rejuvenation plans of the Star Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) fleet”. It did not disclose the sale proceeds.

Star Cruises chief operating officer Chong Chee Tut said the sale could be seen as the “beginning of the Asian fleet rejuvenation plan”. An integral part of the plan involved the redeployment of ships within the group to capitalise on growth and revenue opportunities.

As Asian markets develop, Star Cruises plans to transfer certain mid-sized NCL ships to Asia once new builds are delivered to the North American market. “This requires us to be on the look out for opportunities to sell these identified, older Star ships,” he said.
