Wow!

That is all so interesting, Jeff. As a girl from the upper-midwest, I didn't know much about that area. I did get a chance to drive through upstate New York a couple of years ago on our way to Maine to visit some friends. It was a beautiful area. I really enjoyed everyone's memories!!! Thanks!

Now I want to buy the DVD of, "Dirty Dancing." I saw it years ago, but it will mean a lot more, now.

What is this Borscht Belt? I don't remember it in the movie

Hi!!! Coming from New York the term "borscht belt" was a term for the region which was used by the jewish entertainers pertaining to Borscht being a cold or hot beet soup usually with a dallop of sour cream. As Ruth said in her letter the food made and served was a ethnic influence for what was made and served in the hotels where you stayed. Also similiar to a cruise the food was around you all the time and so delicious that when you came home you said " I must of gained 10 pounds from all the food I ate". It's funny because when we met, many said that a guy from Brooklyn would not come to Westchester to see me. Wow, were they wrong. Wayne made a very good decision. :grin:

As for "Dirty Dancing"- wow , did we go crazy over that movie. What memories it brought back to us. I've probably seen it more times than any other movie. I could never get enough of Patrick Swayze's dancing. I even remember the squeals of the audience when the movie first came out. Wayne and I still watch it whenever it's on TV. In fact , Judy from the sitcom "Still Standing" was one of the dirty dancers. Do you recognize her?

Thanks, Jeff....... sure brought back a lot of memories for me. We still go to Ellenville periodically when we are on the East Coast to visit friends from years back. Being an Italian girl amidst all those wonderful Jewish women was wonderful. I made them Italian food and they reciprocated with potato pancakes, stuffed cabbage, etc. It was a wonderful mix for me and the kids.

Cheryl .... I didn't realize Judy was in dirty dancing. That is one of my favorite movies and I have it on dvd and will certainly look for her next time we watch it.

A little "Dirty Dancing" trivia:

The song "She's Like the Wind" was sung by star Patrick Swayze. It was originally written for Grandview, U.S.A. (1984), was later used in this movie instead.

Cynthia Rhodes (Penny Johnson) was the first to be cast.

The film was re-released in 1997 solely due to a petition led by late-night talk show host Conan O'Brien in which he asked viewers to send letters calling for the film's re-release. When exhibitors finally agreed, O'Brien immediately switched positions, telling his viewers to boycott the film.

The film was set in the summer, yet the lake scene where they were practicing the lift was filmed in October. Since the leaves were already turning, they had to paint the leaves in the background. If you look closely you can see where they missed a few in one spot.

Jennifer Grey, at 27, was 10 years older than the character of Baby. During her audition, she had 5 minutes to prove she could play younger, and that she had the moves for the role.

The dancing Swayze and Grey do during the love scene was actually the same dance that they did for the screen tests. It was never originally supposed to be in the film.

Revealing mistakes: You can see Jennifer Grey's body stocking during the first sex scene.

Johnny gets his pants dirty by sliding across the floor, yet they are clean in the next shot.

Johnny puts his records back twice after talking to Neil.

While Johnny and Baby are driving back after dancing at the other hotel, the car's gearshift lever is in Park.

Johnny takes his jacket off twice just before the last dance of the season.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love trivia!!! They had done a program celebrating the anniversary of Dirty Dancing. They also explaned all the problems they had with the film such as weather(rain), and personality problems between Gray and Swayze. Also since the movie was made they made note of the deaths of Ardolino and the boy who played Robbie.(also Jack Weston)____Honey Coles. I hear they are sitting around the table(again!!!!!) to do the sequel. I feel "if it's not broke don't fix it". I think Jerry Orbach was the best performance. But I am sure the cash will open and say "KA--CHING" and if it is made it could never be like the first. Oh Well and I guess we will have to wait and see. Alice Underground

The sitcom " Still Standing is on Monday nights , sometimes 8:00, other times 8:30. It's a cute show. Judy is the mom. She 's the one that 's one of the dirty dancers.

Jeff, Thanks for the heads up on the "Dirty Dancing" trivia. I never noticed those things. That's how perceptive I am. Guess I was too busy looking at Patrick Swayze's moves. I will watch for those things the next time we watch Dirty Dancing.
