teacp
What does everyone feel about cruising to the Eastern Caribbean in September. Ken & I have been looking at September 18th out of Port Canaveral. Is that too chancy for hurricanes. The price certainly wasn't any cheaper....Opinions please!!! PEB
We did cruise Eastern and Western Caribbean in September of 2003. At the time there was a hurricane in the distance on both sailings, I don't remember the names of the hurricanes. The ship did post maps with details on where the hurricanes were. While in the eastern Caribbean we did get the waves that were caused from the hurricane in the distance but we did not get the rain. This did cause a couple days of some rolling on the ship. At night the light show from the lightning was quite amazing. Overall we had a great time and the ship did alter its course some to try and keep out of the worst waves and wind. The Captain did a great job at this. Would I do it again? Probably but I will admit that you did see concern on many peoples faces and you did see people always checking the postings on where the hurricane was in relation to us, so I do imagine it is a concern and could dampen some peoples trip. KeithnRita
Long range planning of a cruise during the height of hurricane season can get very interesting. We worry about getting aboard ship. Once aboard we know the ship will steer clear of hurricanes. We flew into Fort Lauderdale for a cruise in Oct of 1999 one day after a tropical storm hit. We worried that we would not be able to fly in and/or the ship might have to dock at another port. As it turned out everything was fine the next day. There was some minor flooding at the airport when we flew in and sand covered road in front of our hotel. That evening we took a walk on the beach and it was full of jellyfish. In Oct , 2002 we cruised out of Galveston right after a hurricane in the gulf. Same deal, we worried if it turned to the Texas coast our travel plans flying into Houston would be impacted. We watched the weather channel all week and the storm hit the Mississippi gulf coast, a day before we were scheduled to fly out.
