wendy
That's a shame about the Paradise  Seriously, as a smoker I feel I can reply to this. When I want to smoke I will go outside where there are other smokers and that nasty smoke can drift up to the sky. On a cruise--I would like to have a balcony and enjoy my very bad habit. Without a balcony my choice would be to go outside--and I guess on a non-smoking ship I couldn't do that-- Maybe, re-defined rules for the lines would work. No smoking in public enclosed places. What do you all think??

TheSkipper
I for one am going to miss her as a non-smoking ship. Only sailed aboard her once, but that was right after spending a week on the NCL Sky. We just went down the dock and boarded the Paradise. We could tell the difference we got aboard. It was wonderful, but I'm sure this is a marketing decision on their part to generate more $$.

DaCruzNut
Although I am someone who smokes, I can appreviate the concern of the non-smokers. I had stopped for two years, and went on several cruises during that time. Because smoking was limited to a very few areas of the ships, I truly didn't find that the smoking was of any importance. There was no smoking in any of the public rooms, or hallways, and only a few bars. However, you can be sure that the decision by Carnival, was a financial one, and that the main reason for the turnabout was that they simply could not keep occupancy up with a non-smoking policy. Carnival had one non-smoking ship in its entire fleet, including all of its subsidiaries (HAL, Costa, etc). Had tis policy been a success, you can be sure that Carnival would have expanded it to other ships. The truth is, it fell flat on its face. It's the ancient rule of supply and demand. Dan
When are you going on Paradise, Michelle? It doesn't move to the west coast until late September this year, and as far as I've heard, it's non-smoking until then.
