 My sister and I are taking a cruise for our birthdays in May. We will be sailing on Carnival Paradise.

This is our first cruise(presant from hubbies) and we think we know what we want to do in Nassau and St Thomas but we havnt found much in the Dominican Republic.

If any one has been to DR and would like to suggest something for 2 50ish ladies we would love to hear from you!!

Thanks so much!

Michelle

Where in the DR are you visiting? We've visited Puerta Plata and Santo Domingo. Puerta Plata has beautiful beaches, but not a lot of anything else.

Santo Domingo on the other hand is a fantastic city. It has the oldest cathedral in the New World, Santa Maria La Menor, and has an incredible silver altar. It also houses the "bones" of the great Discoverer, Christopher Columbus. There are two other places that make that claim. You can also visit the house of Diego Colon(Columbus). He used it as his residence when he was Governor of the New World. It is in outstanding condition. Take an organized tour and have someone explain all the history of this wonderful city.

HI, MICHELLE, AND alt text TO OUR CRUISECRAZIES FAMILY!

Glad to see you "hopped right in!' keep it up.

I have to agree 100% with jbond about Puerto Plata, DR, a poverty-stricken town with little to see, or do. On my first visit, I hired a local teenager, Miguel, to show me around. The rate was $5.00 per hour, agreed upon BEFORE we left the dock.

At first, he steered me towards a gift shop......... However, after telling him that I was buying nothing, he would get no kickback, but if he gave me a decent tour I'd give him a little extra, he took me to an old fort (no big deal) and through the town to an ornate, beautiful, church. The 'tour' was two hours; about one-and-a-half too long.

If you're a beach person, the beaches are very nice. If not, stay close to the ship....
