hillorama
Someone said to post our cruise date, but I'm not sure how. Technologically challenged, you know. The cruise starts July 8th, but we are leaving on the 6th, spending a night and day in London first, and taking a train to Dover to embark from the cruise terminal. That's a question that I have also. Anyone joined a cruise from Dover? Are there a lot of taxis available from the Dover Priory station to the cruise terminal. Crystal does have transportation available fron London at $75 per person. I don't know if that is from the airport or from their pre-cruise destination hotel in London, or if they meet up. We love to be independent travelers and have been to Europe a couple times a year most years in the last ten years. And I just love public transportation, trains and tubes, etc. So you experts have several questions here.... Oh, then there's the weather to think about cruising around the British Isles in July--any thoughts? Sorry to be a pain. Love, Elena :cheesy:
Shari2
I can't help you on these questions, Elena, as I have yet to go to Europe or do a British Isles cruise(I would love to), but maybe someone who has will see this and be able to help you. jbond
Haven't sailed with Crystal, but we did a Baltic cruise with RCI a couple of years ago. They charged $65 pp for the transfers. We stayed a few days in London prior to the cruise and the transfer included picking us up at the airport and going to the hotel, then a transfer from the hotel to the port, in our case Harwich. I lived in England for over thirty years and unless I was renting a car at the airport, I wouldn't consider struggling with the luggage on the public transportation. Which airport are you flying into, LHR, Gatwick or Stanstead? There will be ample taxis at the Dover station. Even with the high cost for gas and high prices for cars, I found taxis to be quite inexpensive. The weather will be typically English, raining, just finished raining and rain in the forecast. Temperatures should be around 65 F. Of course you could be lucky and get a dry spell, but I'd plan on it being damp. Don't forget your brolly. Also, please remember that England is not a part of Europe. If God had intended it to be, He would not have made it an island.
