Cayo Hueso!!!! - "The Island of Bones!"

As early sailors drew near its shores, the saw them covered with bleached conch (pronounced 'konk") shells. Seeing them from a distance, they were mistakenly taken for human skeletons, and, so, the name...

You may hear a lot of other, more colorful, stories about the name, but they are myths.
