Thanks everyone for your responses. I do have a couple of questions.

If the ship leaves at 5:30, what time should we get there / what time can we board and how long does it take? Also can I bring my own bottled water with me?

Hi Sebbie!

I heard someone say that they were on the Facination by noon, but I'll let someone who has been on the Ecstasy help you with this one. On Celebrity, people have been boarding around 11:30 or so. You don't ever want to risk being late, because the ship won't wait for you. Be there as early as you can.

I usually fly in the day before to avoid bad weather or flight problems, but if you can't go in the day before, I would take the earliest flight you can. If your air is booked with the cruise line, then they should wait for you if problems arise.

I know that cruise lines frown on bringing soda pop and alcohol on board, but I'm not sure about the water. Maybe someone here will know. Otherwise, I would check in your documents and brochures or ask your travel agent to find out for you. Hope you have a great cruise!

Your documents for boarding will most likely say 2:00 PM but the truth is they will start boarding as soon as the previous passengers have left the ship and customs declares the ship is clear. They will start boarding more than likely sometime between 11:30 and noon. If they say the ship will set sail at 5:30 you must be onboard no later than 5:00. They will always tell you to be onboard a half hour to 45 minutes in advance of sailing so they can set sail ontime.
