Jason
Caribbean Cruises Offer Rare Chance to Drive on Professional Race Track MIAMI, April 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Hairpin turns, pit stops and 100 mph straight-a-ways are not what you normally expect from a cruise line. They are, however, just a few of the maneuvers guests can make on Celebrity Cruises' latest entry in its Celebrity Xpeditions(SM) series: the Celebrity Racing Academy, an authentic, exhilarating race experience paired with plush hotel accommodations. Developed exclusively for Celebrity by racing champion Justin Bell in association with the Skip Barber Racing School, Celebrity Xpeditions Racing Academy includes four hours at the track, including two hours behind the wheel of a Formula One Dodge racecar capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. Professional drivers are on site throughout, providing pre-track briefings and demonstrating racing techniques. All guests also get to experience a "hot lap" -- a ride in the passenger seat with champion drivers Justin Bell or Derek Bell at the helm of a 450-horsepower Dodge Viper. Celebrity's Racing Academy events also extend beyond the track. Guests opting for the post-cruise experience following select Caribbean cruises on Celebrity's Millennium, Century and Summit will be transported to the PGA Resort and Spa, one of Palm Beach County's most luxurious resorts. There, in addition to plush accommodations, participants will have the opportunity to meet with Justin or Derek Bell at a cocktail reception and presentation about the racing experience. The following morning, guests will be transported to Moroso Motorsports Park, a 200-acre park with a state-of-the-art, 2.25-mile, 10-turn course, where they will suit up in racing gear, attend a pre-track briefing and hit the track. Justin Bell was the 2001 TransAm Rookie of the Year and winner of the LeMans 24-hour race and World GT2 Championship. Derek Bell has more than 30 years of racing experience, and is a five-time winner of LeMans. He also was two-time champion of the World Sports Car Championship, and is a commentator for Fox Sports and ESPN. Pricing for the two-day Celebrity Xpeditions Racing Academy package begins at $1,000 per couple with one person participating in the track session, or $1,800 with both guests participating in the track event. Most packages include one or two nights at the PGA Resort and Spa, transportation from the ship to the hotel and racetrack, and the five-hour track experience, including lunch. Additional details and online booking capability are offered via the Celebrity Xpeditions web site at http://www.celebrityxpeditions.com. The Racing Academy is the latest in a series of Celebrity Xpeditions, which include vacation packages on a luxurious megayacht in the exotic Galapagos Islands, voyages on a Russian icebreaker in the isolated Arctic and Antarctic, and a behind-the-scenes experience with the KGB and Kremlin in Moscow.
