endowomen
Need to find out how close this beach is to the cruiseline port...... cant seem to find a map anywhere that shows it. How far is the markets and shops from this port stop??? Any other information regarding this beach and bathrooms would be great, thanks!
JohnG
I just returned from there Monday. The cruise port is in old Freeport. It is nearer the International Bazaar but not a beach. It would require a taxi to Lucaya. The beach at Lucaya is in front of the Sheraton and the Westin, but public access is available to the beach at the edge of the Sheraton. The facilities are not available to non hotel guests, but would be pretty hard to enforce. I understand the taxi ride to Port Lucaya, across the street from these two hotels, is about $10 (for 2). We had paid transfers from the airport to the Sheraton, so I am not sure, but read that. We rented a car for three days.
ftzy
I was just there as well. The port is on the Western side of the island net to all these refineries. It costs 5$ to get to Port Lucaya on one of their taxis(which are all mini vans in reality). It takes about 15 minutes. There will be people who will direct you to the correct van when you get off the ship. Also, you can hop on a van at Port Lucaya and get to the International Bazaar for $1. However, it's not really worth it in my opinion, unless you want to see the same T-shirts and bathing suits over and over again. Some might disagree with me. From there, it's a $4 ride back to the ships.
DaCruzNut
The 'crap' at the International Bazaar Straw Market is the same as at the Port Lucaya Straw Market, and the shops at Port Lucaya are newer, and nicer. You will find the 'usual' Columbian Emeralds International, duty-free liqour, and similar shops, at both locations. I have to agree with 'ftzy,' that it's not worth the time...
