I know this question has probably been asked a million times before, but please bear with me....I'm a frist time cruiser. My wife has a rather elegant gown which she would like to bring on the cruise. I'll be bringing a dark grey suit. She feels it might be a tad too dressy. Comments?

Years ago, 'formal night' was a special occasion, and most of the passengers 'dressed to the nines." Men wore tuxedos, or dark suits, and the women wore fancy gowns. It was like the senior prom!

Over the years, things changed, and, nowadays, you'll see everything, on 'formal night,' from tux's and gowns to jeans and t-shirts....

Some lines, such as Princess, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean, still have a high percentage of passengers who "dress up." However, lines such as Carnival and NCL have become very informal.

Iggy,

By all means, let her wear her elegant gown! She will NOT feel out of place! My wife brings an extra bag just for her gowns! She usually brings two and has at times brought three.

In fact for our December cruise, she is talking about brings gowns for her two sisters as well.

I wear a tux, but your suit will be fine! At least half the guys will be in suits, so no problem at all.

I vote for bringing the gown! It's fun to be all dressed up and pretty. I bought a new glitzy one for our next cruise! Don't tell my DH, though. He doesn't know it, yet! I got him a great bargain, though! It was only $70.
