Private Islands.....

On nearly all of my cruises, where the ship stopped at it’s “private island,†numerous fellow-passengers have said that this was their favorite stop on the entire cruise.

I, for one, have never been impressed with the “private islands.†The exception is Blue Lagoon Island, the way it used to be before a storm divided it in two and the owners began to rent it out to several groups at a time.

I guess, living in Florida, a few minutes away from a beautiful beach, lined with palm trees, from which I can watch the cruise ships come and go has spoiled me. The “private islands†don’t offer me much more than what I have at home. I love ports where I can sightsee, shop, and explore….

How about you?

I've been to 3 different ones. I can take them or leave them. Half Moon Cay(we renewed our vows there) Labadee, Haiti and Cococay.

Half Moon was lovely. Haven't been to cococay in many years but will go again since they made improvements and I'm curious. Labadee is probably my favorite and I always get off there. Guess it's the combo of the mountains and beach.

I agree living in FL. we really don't need beach days as we get many but sometimes the islands are nice.

sailingrose-I'd probably enjoy Labadee. At least it's scenic, with the mountains, and all.

After all, I don't get to see mountains too often. That's one of the disadvantages of living in a state with only three mountains, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain...

Right there with ya. I've had enough of those mountains LOL!

When I was a kids we used to vacation in upstate NY and I loved the site of the mountains. Guess that's why I also love Alaska. I'll take a mountain over another beach anyday.

We've only been to one, Half Moon Cay--and we love it! Not to many sunny beaches around here, so beaches are at the top our list of things to do and see. Just lay around and enjoy the sun and the ocean. We are easy to please.

I don't go to the beach during the day but love to walk there after the sun sets. I really need to try other cruise lines besides Carnival so at least I would have the experience of the private islands that the other cruise lines go to.

We have only been to Princess and HAL's private islands, and we have enjoyed them both. In ports we usually only go to beaches anyway, and snorkel, and don't take expensive excursions. So private islands are fine for us. Plenty of facilities, no need to take cash, no pushy vendors, safe, etc.

We have yet to take a cruise with a stop at a private beech. For our next trip, we almost went on the Caribbean Princess which would have had one, but decided against it. Laying on a beech is not my cup of tea.

If you want to see mountains, go to Alaska. I thought i knew mountains, but I didn't.

I THOUGHT I heard somebody mention Alaska in this thread!!!! My very favorite place to cruise!!!!!

As far as private islands go, we would rather have a sea day. I don't really like beaches and stay on the ship anyway. Wonderful way to get into the spa

.........and I can't spell either
