Table size?

What size diner table to you prefer while on a cruise? We've had a table for two up to a table for twelve. The table for two was a special request and we really enjoyed it. We were treated like royalty while celebrating our actual wedding anniversary on board. The table for twelve was a request, as well, when we met up with others we cruised with in the past. Generally if we are cruising alone we like a round table for eight which is a great way to meet interesting people. We have been lucky so far (knock on wood) we have not had any table mates from hell! Of course, maybe some thought we were! Also, the rectangular diner tables we don't particularity like.

We prefer a larger table because we also like to meet new people. A round table is much better than a rectangular one. We were at a rectangular one for one day and we all requested to switch and were able to get a round table all together.

We also like a round table for eight. Anything over that, and it's hard to converse with some of the people, and anything under that could make it difficult if you don't have anything in common. We have always had the best of tablemates, though. We have always had a great time with our tablemates. We do ask for a table for eight, usually.

Before we had our son, we liked the tables for six as we were generally matched with two couples. Tables for four are too small (what if you don't get along?) and we found that tables for eight turned into two tables for four, as it was difficult to carry on conversation.

After our son was born, and until he was about 5 or 6, we requested a table for the three of us by ourselves. We felt this was best, as not everyone enjoys sitting with young children. And when he was only 1 or 2 years old, he was messy, despite our best efforts.

Now we ask to be seated at a large table at which there will be other families. It has always worked out well, and we've met some great people.

We usually travel with at least one child so we usually ask for a table of 8-10. Has always worked pretty well.

We had a table for 12 one Christmas cruise and it worked perfect. Parents with 2 kids sailing with 1 set of Grandparents. We all got along splendidly and our kids are still friends 4 years later.

I've always preferred large tables, 8-10 people. As stated before, it's a great way to meet people. Guess I've been lucky, since I have only had to request a table change twice, in many, many cruises. The maitre d' handled the request promptly and with no problems, and I wound up at fantastic tables both times!

On one occasion, a request for a change wasn;t necessary. At a table for 8, one couple was particularly a problem. I won't go into detail... The rest of us, at the table, all 6, was able to "convince" this couple to request not only a different table, but the ealier seating. They weren't happy with our "suggestion," but complied.

(Boy, this is one story I'd really love to give you the details of, but it wouldn't be appropriate)
