DebbieandJerry
I can't top the How to Buy Port Wine. I like to buy spices and marinades from the islands that I can't get in the states.
1shipshape
We have purchased liquor in Jamaica along with the Rum Cakes. Hubby likes new T-shirts from most ports and I like to get lanyards from different places. We bought metal artwork from Astoria, OR which is lovely and very unique. Of course the other various trinkets like refrigerator magnets, jewelry for grandkids, leather goods in Mexico. Just depends what their specialties are and if we think it is a good bargain. GottaCruz
I'm down to buying nothing. We haven't even been getting of the ship. We've been enjoying having the ship to ourselves on port days. Crazy , right?
RayColey
Our rules of purchase are: (1) It can't be made in asia (unless we are in asia). (2) If it's jewelry, the jewels should be grown there (unless it's a dutch island). (3) Gewgaws are verboten. (4) Clothing is OK, but read the label carefully. (5) Usually it's better to just go back to the ship and have a drink.
coloradocruisers
Dang Ray. If I follow those rules I might save some money!
cruisetarp
We buy Christmas ornaments for our small "cruising" tree. Now I have to either stop buying them or get a bigger tree.
DebbieandJerry
I try to find a post card that best represents the island that we visited. I'm not always successful. We tend to go to the local supermarkets and look for coffee and cookies from that island. Pretty successful in finding both (have to really read the labels). Don't do the shopping or souveniers anymore. I really look at them and say, if someone bought this for me ...
